Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in Seattle, Washington is recruiting a 1.0 Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Critical Care team.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) works with patients/families, staff and systems to achieve quality, cost-effective, patient-focused outcomes within a specialty area. Focus areas are clinical practice, teaching, research and consulting.

Principal Accountabilities

The following duties are intended to be representative of the work performed by incumbents in this position and is not all-inclusive. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility will not preclude it from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical extension of position responsibilities.

50% - Designs, implements and evaluates innovative individual and/or population-based programs of care to achieve desired evidence-based, quality, cost-effective, nurse-sensitive outcomes. Uses knowledge of differential illness, diagnoses and treatments in comprehensive, holistic assessments of patients. May perform patient teaching and case management.

25% - Serves as leader/consultant/mentor/change agent in advancing the practice of nursing among other nurses across the organization, using innovative evidence-based interventions, best-practice guidelines, and modification of professional standards and organizational policies that direct the care of nursing personnel and other providers of healthcare to improve outcomes. Promotes and participates in nursing research. Demonstrates engagement in specialty by participating in local and national professional organizations.

10% - Leads multidisciplinary groups to facilitate collaboration with other disciplines in the attainment of outcomes across the continuum of care.

10% - Interprets the dimensions of nursing care requiring resources at the system level, providing leadership to ensure that the system adequately supports the delivery of nursing care. Works with Nursing leadership to ensure competency of staff.

5% - Demonstrates professional citizenship and fiscal responsibility in the healthcare system by focusing on health policy and/or resource management to ensure quality, cost-effective outcomes of nursing care.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Licensure to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Washington State.
  • Graduation from a Master's or Doctor of Nursing Practice Clinical Nurse Specialist program of study.
  • Successful completion of the Clinical Nurse Specialist Exam administered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or certification from American Academy of Critical Care Nursing.

The CNS practices, and is accountable for nursing, at an advanced level. The registered nurse license authorizes autonomy in the diagnosis and treatment of health-related problems amenable to nursing intervention, as well as the authority to execute medical regimens within the scope of nursing practice. Consequently, the CNS applies advanced knowledge and developed skills related to methods, techniques, and management of prescribed medical and nursing therapies. CNS education and experience expands the practice of nursing through application of knowledge and development of competencies for the purpose of increasing the depth and breadth of nursing practice within the nurses' autonomous scope.
