We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Registered Veterinary Technician to join our Surgery Department at VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center. We are looking for someone who has extensive experience as a surgical veterinary technician in a fast-paced referral environment. Our Veterinary Technicians and Assistants are an integral part of our team and function with a great deal of autonomy and responsibility. You will be supported by boarded and residency trained surgeons, anesthesiologist (as of Sept’24) and VTS in anesthesia.

Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center is a large multidisciplinary referral hospital providing veterinary referral services across Northern California. Our services include Emergency and Critical Care, Orthopedic surgery, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Internal Medicine, Soft Tissue Surgery, Cardiology including Interventional Surgery, Advanced Imaging, Medical and Radiation Oncology and Rehabilitation.

Full-Time position that offers an alternative workweek of 4-10 hour shifts Monday-Thursday with a preference for assisting in rotating voluntary on call availability on weekdays and weekends.

Responsibilities

· Prepare surgical suites and equipment for procedures

· Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures, including patient monitoring, anesthesia administration, and surgical instrument preparation

· Maintain accurate medical records and ensure proper documentation of surgical procedures

· Monitor pre & post-operative patients and provide appropriate care and medication as directed by veterinarians

· Educate pet owners on post-operative care and medication administration

· Collaborate with the veterinary team to ensure a safe and sterile surgical environment

Qualifications

· Valid certification as a Registered Veterinary Technician

· Experience working in a surgical or anesthesia department preferred

· Strong technical skills including anesthesia knowledge base, sound judgement, and the ability to function both independently and with the team are essential

· Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

· Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team

Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials. The pay range for this position is $23 to $31/ hour.
