Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Consultant Civil Engineer to join our Water Engineering team in various locations

Working within various multidisciplinary project design teams, you will contribute to the project engineering design input to water engineering projects. This encompasses optioneering and design for water treatment, wastewater treatment and sewerage network schemes.

Duties will include preparation of optioneering studies, drawings, 3D models, specifications, design calculations, reports and contract documents. The position will be technically involved in design work, checking of work completed by others, coordination with the multi-disciplinary team, as well as resolution of design issues during construction.

We are looking for individuals with a strong base of technical skills, with the ability to use a range of design software and excellent organisational and communication skills.

You will be enrolled on the company’s ICE accredited training scheme and will receive a programme of on-the-job learning and complementary training content. You will be assigned a mentor and supervising civil engineer to assist you on your journey to chartered status.

Key Responsibilities

As a Civil/Structural Engineer, you will work within project teams helping us deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. Key responsibilities include:

  • Working in conjunction with multi-disciplinary engineering teams – civil, structural, water management, process, mechanical & electrical/ICA
  • Production of drawings and 3D models to clients’ engineering standards and specifications and ensuring design deliverables meet required standards of accuracy and quality
  • Supporting projects with data analysis and contributing to preparing reports
  • Preparation of design calculations and contributing to providing solutions to design problems
  • Supporting the administration of the projects
  • Supporting construction works on-site, through site visits and working with site engineering staff to resolve technical issues
  • Adhere to Wood’s HS&E and QA policies
  • Record training and experience obtained during Initial Professional Development (IPD) and undertake Continued Professional Development (CPD) to meet the requirements of the Institution of Civil Engineers

Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience in delivery of civil/structural engineering projects (not necessarily in water engineering)
  • Ability to apply engineering principles to design problems
  • Practical appreciation of site constraints and construction processes
  • Ability to work accurately, flexibly and to integrate your work with other discipline areas, whilst working to tight programme and budget constraints
  • Ability to communicate fluently with other team members and technical / non-technical project stakeholders
  • Ability to produce reports in clear English
  • Have a heightened awareness of personal safety and a good understanding of the CDM Regulations
  • Ability to travel and visit operational and construction sites as required, and to act in a safe manner
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint

Desirable

  • Previous experience in water industry or civil infrastructure design
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, REVIT and/or Civil 3D (although additional training will be provided)
  • Practice in model coordination and clash avoidance using Navisworks
  • An understanding of BIM
