Job description
Overview
Answer telephone calls relating to known or suspected poisonings and then advise on treatment and /or triage of patient to appropriate level of care. Participate in data collection/reporting efforts, public education programs, and research efforts. Acts as a mentor for training of staff and health care professional rotators. Provides shift and quality improvement supervision of center. Qualifications
Age of Patients Served
All Age Groups.
Required Education
High School Diploma or GED
Necessary Skills
Must be familiar with advanced aspects of pharmacology, toxicology, and clinical patient management as well as pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic properties of medications. Possess good organizational skills. Familiar with computer data entry and retrieval. Must be able to assess severity of exposures and placate victims and families. Must be able to assess, prioritize, triage and communicate effectively with general public and health care professionals. Must possess teaching skills necessary to train students and residents and new staff. Must possess shift supervisory skills and quality improvement auditing abilities.
Required Licensure/Certifications
Must be an AAPCC Certified Specialist in Poison Information.
Preferred Licensure/Certifications
Licensure to practice nursing, pharmacy, medicine, or physician's assistant in the State of Florida is preferred.
Required Experience
1-2 years - Poison center specialist experience.
Supervision
Supervisory responsibility of 2-3 employees. Age of Patients Served:
