About the Role

At PSS Cross Country Infrastructure Solutions, every team member plays a critical role in delivering the products, equipment, and expertise that keep America’s infrastructure projects moving forward.

The Senior Accountant is responsible for leading complex accounting activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and supporting month-end and year-end close processes. This role plays a key part in strengthening internal controls, improving accounting processes, and providing financial analysis that supports business decision-making in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment.

This position reports to the Accounting Manager or Controller and collaborates closely with Finance, Operations, and business leaders across the organization.

What You'll Do

General Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries, account analyses, reconciliations, and financial statements
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, supporting schedules, and audit documentation
  • Perform complex accounting analyses involving high-risk and sensitive financial areas
  • Analyze historical financial data and investigate accounting variances
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
  • Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

Technical Accounting & Compliance

  • Maintain current knowledge of GAAP and ensure compliance across accounting operations
  • Interpret contracts and evaluate accounting treatment for complex financial transactions
  • Research and implement new accounting pronouncements and prepare technical accounting memorandums
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls to support financial reporting accuracy and compliance
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, supporting documentation, and responding to auditor requests

Systems, Process Improvement & Financial Analysis

  • Evaluate, design, implement, document, and improve accounting systems, workflows, and internal processes
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting accuracy, operational efficiency, and financial visibility
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and strategic finance initiatives
  • Participate in ERP implementations, system upgrades, and accounting process improvements
  • Complete special projects and ad hoc financial analyses as assigned

Leadership & Cross-Functional Support

  • Provide accounting guidance, system support, and training to Finance & Accounting personnel and other departments
  • Serve as a backup resource for accounting systems and departmental processes
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support operational and financial objectives
  • Promote best practices, continuous improvement, and strong financial controls throughout the organization

What You Bring

  • Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. (e.g., Social Security card, passport, or other acceptable I-9 documents)
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
  • CPA certification preferred
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including at least two years in public accounting preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as Infor-CSD, Sage, Visual Lease, OneStream, or similar platforms preferred
  • Experience interpreting contracts and analyzing complex financial transactions
  • Familiarity with implementing new accounting standards and preparing technical accounting memorandums
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based role with prolonged periods of sitting and computer work
  • Time-sensitive reporting deadlines may require periodic overtime, particularly during month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting periods
  • Limited and infrequent travel may be required
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds as needed
  • Occasional extended hours or weekend work may be required during peak reporting periods
