HGV Mechanic

T/A Gerry Kearns Plant Hire are currently hiring HGV Mechanics for their Dublin Location.
A HGV Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of diesel-powered heavy goods vehicles and other material-handling equipment. This role ensures all machines operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repair
Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and overhauls on diesel forklifts and telehandlers (1 tonne to 24 tonne), including engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, brakes, and steering mechanisms.
Rebuild or replace faulty components, such as fuel injection systems, motors, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
Conduct preventative maintenance according to manufacturer schedules.
Diagnostics & Troubleshooting
Use diagnostic software and mechanical tools to identify equipment issues.
Test forklifts post-repair to ensure proper functionality and safety compliance.
Record all faults, repairs, and maintenance performed.
Safety & Compliance
Follow all workplace safety standards and environmental regulations.
Maintain a clean and organized workshop area.
Ensure forklifts meet safety inspection standards before being released for use. ● Adhere to manufacturer and company policies regarding servicing and repairs.
Documentation & Reporting
Complete maintenance logs, inspection reports, and repair documentation accurately. ● Communicate repair status, cost estimates, and timelines with supervisors.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Education: Trade certification or qualification in HGV Mechanics, H Vehicle Maintenance, or a related field.
Experience: 2–5 years of experience as a diesel mechanic, preferably with forklifts or material-handling equipment.
Technical Skills
○ Proficiency in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
Ability to use diagnostic software and mechanical tools.
Welding and fabrication experience (advantageous).
Other Skills
Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic ability.
Attention to detail and safety-conscious attitude.
Ability to work independently and within a team.
Good communication and reporting skills.
Working Conditions
Workshop or warehouse environment, sometimes outdoors.
May involve lifting parts and working in physically demanding positions.
Standard work hours (45 hour working week) with occasional overtime.
Salary €18.05ph/ €42,237.00 per year. Location, Naul Co Dublin
