Job description

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

  • The Cardiology/Radiology Specialist educates patients and staff appropriately in reference to radiology issues among other assigned tasks.

SUPERVISION: Reports directly to Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Effectively identifies and solves problems in reference to radiology equipment, patient care or radiation safety.
  • Consistently communicates abnormal variances to Charge nurse, Circulating RN or Nurse Manager.
  • Competent in sterile technique for all cath lab procedures
  • Demonstrates the following best practices in a consistent and positive manner: Huddles, procedure reporting, Service Excellence principles, and use of sterile technique.
  • Follows evidence-based policies and procedures to guide radiology practice.
  • Consistently produces quality radiographs.
  • Possesses competency in use of technology and computers.
  • Demonstrates competency in the use of archive unit, image management, study measurements and quality control.
  • Performs assessment of patient in regards to positioning to obtain quality study.
  • Consistently participates in the multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
  • Competently performs/assists with all cath lab procedures performed.
  • Demonstrates competency in operation of all cath lab equipment.
  • Interprets and implements physician orders in reference to positioning and x ray views.
  • Competently performs unit specific procedures in the x ray and scrub positions.
  • Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in implementation of Unit PI plan.
  • Has knowledge of and utilizes unit specific equipment appropriately.
  • Follows established hospital/department safety policies.
  • Understands and appropriately responds to the unique combination of cultural variables that professionals and individuals bring to interactions.
  • Follows hospital/department infection control policies.
  • Adheres to hospital/department radiation safety policies including annual Radiation Safety inservice.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of School of Radiology Technology required
  • Current Louisiana Radiology license and ARRT registered required
  • BLS-CPR certified required
  • ACLS certified required

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Work requires a variety of physical activities including standing and walking for long periods of time, bending, stooping, and lifting.
  • The work environment may be physically confining.
  • Visual acuity is required for a variety of specific activities.
  • Must have normal hearing or utilize adaptive hearing devices if duties require listening with a stethoscope to discern breath sounds, heart sounds, and bowel sounds.
  • Ability to do shift work as required.
