Quality Technician
Job description
Hynds is looking for a hands-on QA Technician to join our Pokeno manufacturing site. You'll play a key role in ensuring the precast concrete and concrete pipe products we produce meet the highest quality standards — protecting our S-Mark certification, our reputation, and the infrastructure our communities rely on.
This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in civil engineering or manufacturing lab testing who enjoys detail-focused, practical work and being part of a strong production team.
What You'll Be Doing
- Carrying out routine product testing, load testing, and water-tightness (hydrostatic) testing on concrete pipes, in line with national and international standards
- Performing pre-pour and post-pour QA checks on precast concrete — mould dimensions, reinforcement, product finish and marking
- Conducting dimensional checks on pipes and reinforcement cages, and repairing concrete products as needed
- Raising and closing out Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for products that don't meet standard
- Supporting concrete trials, sample preparation, and characterisation of sand, aggregates and additives
- Keeping the lab and testing equipment clean, calibrated, and audit-ready
- Compiling and reporting QA data daily, weekly and monthly, and flagging any out-of-tolerance results
- Providing relief cover across Batcher, Gatekeeper, Precast, Pipe Technician and Lab roles as required
- Contributing to a safe, clean and efficient site through strong health, safety and environmental practices
What We're Looking For
- At least 1 year's experience in civil engineering and/or manufacturing lab testing of concrete samples and products
- A tertiary qualification in QA, Civil Engineering, or a related field
- Solid understanding of laboratory procedures and testing practices
- Computer literacy, including confidence with MS Excel
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in test results
- Strong communication skills and a genuine team-player attitude
- A safety-first mindset and the ability to safely lift up to 20kg
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach and a drive for continuous improvement
Why Join Hynds?
- Be part of a business where people genuinely matter, and safety comes first
- Ongoing training, upskilling, and development opportunities
- Work within a supportive, close-knit production and quality team
- Play a hands-on role in delivering sustainable infrastructure solutions for New Zealand
