Job description

Dorrigo Community Preschool has been part of the local community for more than 50 years.

If you are looking for a role where relationships come before paperwork, where children are known as individuals, and where you can enjoy paid school holidays and predictable hours, this opportunity may be exactly what you have been searching for.

We are seeking a Cert III or Diploma-qualified Educator to join our welcoming and experienced team from Term 3. This position is initially offered as a 12-month maternity leave contract, with strong potential for ongoing opportunities within the service.

Why educators are attracted to this role

  • Paid school holiday breaks
  • Fixed operating hours of 8:30 am to 4:00 pm
  • No rotating rosters
  • Community-based not-for-profit preschool
  • Children aged 3–5 years only
  • Small service licensed for just 30 children per day
  • Above-ratio staffing and support
  • Experienced and supportive Director
  • Educational Leader mentoring embedded into practice
  • Genuine opportunities to grow professionally
  • Beautiful natural outdoor environment featuring a yarning circle and rotunda
  • Warm, collaborative and professional team culture

About the service

Located on the stunning Dorrigo Plateau in Northern New South Wales, Dorrigo Community Preschool is a well-established not-for-profit kindergarten with a strong reputation for high-quality early childhood education.

Approximately one hour from Coffs Harbour, the preschool provides a unique balance between meaningful professional work and a relaxed regional lifestyle.

The service philosophy recognises

  • Children as capable, resourceful and active constructors of their own learning
  • Families as children's first and most influential teachers
  • The Gumbaynggirr people as Traditional Owners of the land
  • The importance of respectful and authentic relationships

Our experienced team is passionate about providing a nurturing environment where children, families and educators feel a genuine sense of belonging.

About the role

Working alongside an experienced team, you will

  • Plan and deliver engaging play-based learning experiences
  • Contribute to observations, documentation and reflective practice
  • Support children's learning, wellbeing and development
  • Build strong relationships with children and families
  • Collaborate with colleagues to maintain a positive team culture
  • Participate in professional learning and quality improvement initiatives

This is an opportunity to work in a preschool where child-led learning, reflective practice and meaningful relationships are not simply talked about but lived every day.

What you will bring

  • A completed Cert III or Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (or actively working towards)
  • Experience working in an Australian early childhood setting
  • Current First Aid, CPR, Asthma and Anaphylaxis qualifications
  • Current NSW Working With Children Check
  • Strong understanding of the Early Years Learning Framework and National Quality Standard
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • A collaborative and reflective approach to practice

Considering a tree change?

Dorrigo offers a lifestyle that is becoming increasingly difficult to find elsewhere.

Imagine finishing work at 4:00pm and spending your afternoon exploring national parks, waterfalls, walking trails and local cafés rather than sitting in traffic. Enjoy a strong sense of community, affordable living and easy access to the beaches and amenities of Coffs Harbour.

For educators seeking greater balance, purpose and connection, Dorrigo offers something genuinely special.
