In this role, you will be part of a forward-thinking APP structure designed to support growth toward increased clinical autonomy , while maintaining strong physician collaboration in a highly specialized oncology environment.

The Role

This APP position offers a dynamic blend of surgical and medical oncology responsibilities , supporting patients across the continuum of urologic cancer care. You will work closely with urologic oncologists while developing deep clinical expertise in both procedural and longitudinal management.

On a typical day, you will

Work Monday-Friday ( no call, no weekends ) from 8am-5pm in outpatient clinic.

Partner with urology - oncology surgeons and interdisciplinary teams to manage complex cancer patients

Manage patients in the clinic setting , including follow-ups and treatment coordination

Participate in treatment planning, patient education, and symptom management across disease stages

Contribute to continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient environments in a hybrid surgical-medical model

Engage in a high-acuity, high-complexity patient population requiring advanced clinical decision-making and adaptability

This role is especially compelling for APPs seeking depth in oncology care, surgical exposure, and a clearly defined pathway toward greater autonomy . UVA Health is evolving its APP practice model, where:

APPs work under two collaborating physicians

Over approximately two years , APPs transition toward increased independence

Nurse Practitioners function as advanced practice RNs with structured collaboration, while Physician Assistants operate within a medical model with a distinct pathway to independent clinical practice
