The Target Pay Range for this position is $140,000 - $150,000 annually. At Antech, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget

Job Purpose

The combination of rapid technology innovation, changes in consumer and professional preferences & behaviors that would have been unthinkable a mere decade ago, and the power and importance of data, have become disruptive forces in the Veterinary diagnostics business.

This role will play a critical part in supporting the next generation technologies team delivering AI products to the Mars Science & Diagnostics business. It functions as a subject matter expert, bringing a depth of knowledge about these technologies and combining this with an understanding of business needs, to find opportunities and problems that can only be solved by new-to-Mars (if not the world) applications of AI technology.

To find these problems the role partners across the global science and diagnostics R&D function at Mars. It then ideates approaches and leads transversal delivery while utilizing agile, design oriented, methods. It is also critical that this role maintains a strong external perspective so as to learn and stay up to date on AI/ML.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Partner with business users at all levels to solve the problems we should be solving by understanding the business benefit to be had from solving them. Also drawing on internal and external expertise as needed to bring skills as needed.

Be a subject matter expert in AI/ML and its applications in many areas and understand how these can be applied at Mars to drive business benefit.

Utilize expertise in AI technologies to solve real problems, creating beacon projects for the rest of Mars

Drive solutions through own team and also by partnering with other teams to scale or discovering transversal use cases across different parts of the organization globally and creating standardized approaches.

Help to build platforms to lower the barriers to entry for new AI products within R&D

Able to drive quick test and learn work directly, but also able to utilize other development teams for capacity when needed.

Engagement, negotiation and influencing of internal stakeholders to establish priorities in line with the highest business impact.

Ensures the key handoffs and interdependencies between all relevant internal teams, 3rd party firms and business stakeholders to ensure successful value delivery, and ability to scale

Buildout and lead a team of data scientists.

Context & Scope

Operates globally across the own team and within R&D, partnering with other Mars Technologies teams and business stakeholders at all levels to govern and deliver high impact transversal projects. It also partners with SMEs within Mars to find and ideate how to solve critical business problems.

Be recognized as a subject matter expert both within Mars and externally, across one or more areas of AI/ML.

Builds a network of expertise and capability extending inside Mars and beyond to startups, thought leaders, academia, etc.

Plays a critical role in iterative, agile projects that rapidly prove or disprove hypotheses and lead to value for Mars

Continually learns and improves own skill set, and then brings that knowledge into Mars, both upskilling other associates and finding ways to convert this knowledge into business value.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business or IT discipline eg computer science, engineering, statistics, physics. (Data Science Preferred)

Masters or post-graduate degrees a plus

At least 3 – 5 years experience in a data science role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proven experience to build strong working relationships with key stakeholders and understand their needs through design thinking.

Demonstrated ability to leverage the application of machine learning, artificial intelligence to solve for business needs.

Ability to prioritize and deliver global scale transversal projects with the highest impact to the business.

Ideally experience in working in a global environment across segments

Working Conditions

The associate is regularly required to apply manual dexterity, including hand/wrist flexibility, for computer keyboarding. The associate frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The associate is frequently required to hear and speak in order to use the telephone, make presentations and communicate with people in an office environment. The associate is occasionally required to sit and stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch. The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.

The associate will primarily work in a typical office environment including use of cubicles, computers and overhead lighting. Temperature extremes will be minimal to nonexistent. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The associate will be required to use a computer, spreadsheets, data base management, email, and the Internet. The associate is frequently required to use a calculator; fax, copy machine, and phone system. The associate must occasionally use media equipment such as an overhead projector, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams.
