Your Job in a Nutshell

As Head of Actuarial Services Non-Life, you will lead the non-life actuarial services team of Baloise Assurances Luxembourg, present both as a main actor in the local market as well as in the strong developing international market. You will ensure the quality, robustness and timely delivery of actuarial analyses, technical provisions, actuarial reporting and more generally the quality of insurance risk insights. You will provide independent, business-relevant actuarial expertise to support sound decision-making, regulatory compliance and the sustainable profitability of the non-life portfolio. Pricing activities are explicitly excluded from this role, as they are performed by a dedicated Pricing team.

Reporting directly to the CFO, you will manage a team of 5 actuarial professionals and work in close collaboration with Finance, Risk Management, Reinsurance, Underwriting, Claims, Operations, Data and Group Actuarial stakeholders.

You will coordinate with external auditors, external actuarial reviewers, reinsurers and supervisory stakeholders where required, ensuring that actuarial deliverables meet Luxembourg regulatory expectations, Group standards and internal governance requirements.

As a key stakeholder in cross-functional governance bodies and business steering forums, you will contribute to reserving, capital management, reinsurance, portfolio monitoring, ORSA/SFCR/RSR reporting, IFRS 17 processes and data quality initiatives for the non-life business.

What you can expect

Contract type: open-term / full-time

  • Leadership, governance and actuarial operating model:

o Lead, coach and develop the non-life actuarial services team, ensuring clear priorities, efficient delivery, knowledge sharing and high technical standards. o Define and maintain the actuarial operating model, governance framework, controls, documentation standards and reporting calendar in line with local and Group requirements. o Coordinate effectively with Risk, Finance, Reinsurance, Underwriting, Claims, Operations, Data, IT, Group Actuarial and other key stakeholders.

  • Technical provisions, reserving and actuarial opinion:

o Oversee the calculation, analysis and validation of non-life technical provisions under Solvency II, IFRS 17 and local accounting frameworks. o Ensure robust reserving methodologies, assumptions, back-testing, claims development analyses, large loss reviews and documentation of expert judgements. o Prepare and present actuarial conclusions to senior management, governance committees, external auditors, external actuarial reviewers and Group stakeholders.

  • Regulatory reporting, Solvency II, ORSA and IFRS 17:

o Lead actuarial contributions to Solvency II, ORSA, SFCR, RSR and CAA reporting, ensuring consistency, traceability and quality of actuarial inputs. o Assess the appropriateness of the Standard Formula for non-life risks and provide insight on underwriting, reserve, catastrophe and capital risk drivers. o Oversee actuarial inputs for IFRS 17 and partner with Finance and Reporting teams to explain movements, support closings and strengthen financial reporting controls.

  • Portfolio monitoring, reinsurance, capital and process improvement:

o Monitor claims experience, reserve development, loss ratios, technical result and portfolio trends across non-life lines of business and distribution channels. o Provide independent actuarial insight to Underwriting, Claims, Reinsurance and senior management on profitability, portfolio quality and emerging risks. o Support reinsurance optimisation, capital planning, stress testing, scenario analyses, risk appetite monitoring, data quality, model governance and automation initiatives.

What we expect

  • 10+ years of actuarial experience in non-life insurance, with strong expertise in reserving, Solvency II, IFRS 17 and insurance risk analysis; proven experience leading actuarial teams or complex actuarial workstreams.
  • Master's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Finance or a related quantitative discipline; actuarial qualification and actuarial credentials are a mandatory requirement.
  • Advanced knowledge of non-life reserving methods, claims development analysis, technical provisions, Solvency II standard formula, ORSA processes, IFRS 17 and actuarial model governance.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex actuarial matters clearly to CFO, ExCo, Risk, Finance, auditors, regulators and business leaders.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach and structure a team, while improving processes, controls, documentation and delivery discipline.
  • Experience with actuarial software, data analytics, SQL, Python, R, SAS or BI tools is an asset; strong analytical mindset and attention to data quality are essential.
  • Languages: excellent English and French are mandatory; German and Luxembourgish are considered as assets in our environment.
