About the Role

The Accounting Services Manager, also known as a Client Advisory Services (CAS) Manager, is responsible for delivering outsourced accounting, financial advisory, and client accounting services to a diverse portfolio of businesses. This role combines technical accounting expertise with strategic financial consulting, project management, and team leadership to help clients improve financial performance, streamline accounting operations, and make informed business decisions. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, client relationship management, and modern accounting technology.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple client accounting engagements, ensuring projects are completed accurately, on schedule, and within established budgets.
  • Review monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting workflows, financial reports, reconciliations, and deliverables for accuracy and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Lead recurring client meetings to present financial statements, management reports, key performance indicators, and strategic financial recommendations.
  • Serve as a trusted financial advisor by identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, cash flow management, and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee client onboarding activities, including assessing accounting needs, developing service plans, preparing project estimates, and coordinating appropriate staffing resources.
  • Collaborate with tax, audit, and advisory professionals to support integrated client service delivery and ensure effective cross-functional communication.
  • Monitor work in progress, manage project profitability, prepare timely client billing, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency while delivering exceptional client value.
  • Interpret financial statements and provide meaningful analysis to help clients make informed business and operational decisions.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop accounting professionals through ongoing training, performance feedback, and technical guidance.
  • Utilize cloud-based accounting platforms and financial technology solutions to improve reporting accuracy, automation, and operational effectiveness.
  • Maintain compliance with organizational information security policies and protect confidential financial and client information.
  • Support additional accounting, financial consulting, and client advisory initiatives as business needs evolve.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting, client advisory, public accounting, or outsourced accounting experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or CPA eligibility is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial reporting, account reconciliations, and financial statement analysis.
  • Experience managing multiple client engagements while balancing competing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong client relationships while providing consultative financial guidance.
  • Experience reviewing accounting work, supervising staff, and leading high-performing accounting teams.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, Acumatica, Xero, Great Plains, or similar financial management platforms.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present financial information to business leaders and stakeholders.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with outsourced accounting services, Client Advisory Services (CAS), or fractional controller and CFO support.
  • Knowledge of sales tax registrations, compliance, and indirect tax reporting.
  • Experience overseeing payroll processing and payroll-related accounting functions.
  • Familiarity with financial process improvement, workflow automation, and accounting technology implementation.
  • Experience developing budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial performance reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify strategic consulting opportunities that enhance client value and long-term business growth.
