Marketing Manager, Meetings & Scientific Programs
Job description
Position Overview The Manager of Marketing, Meetings and Scientific Programs leads integrated marketing strategies to drive growth and engagement across ASM's meetings, education, and industry initiatives, serving as lead marketer for ASM Microbe and other key programs while expanding audiences and delivering measurable results through cross-functional collaboration.
Essential Functions
Marketing Strategy & Portfolio Planning
- Develop, recommend and execute integrated marketing strategies for ASM meetings, scientific programs, education offerings, industry partnerships, and other assigned program portfolios, exercising independent judgement to align marketing priorities with organizational objectives, revenue goals, audience growth, and engagement outcomes.
- Serve at the lead marketing partner for assigned internal business units, evaluating program goals and business needs to develop marketing plans, campaign timelines, audience strategies, channel recommendations, and measurable performance targets.
Campaign Execution & Channel Management
- Plan, manage, and optimize multi-channel marketing campaigns across email, web, paid media, social media, digital advertising, content marketing, and other relevant channels to support audience acquisition, registration, engagement, retention, and conversion.
- Oversee email marketing strategy and execution, including campaign calendars, list segmentation, automation, nurture journeys, testing, personalization, performance tracking, and recommendations for campaign optimization.
- Manage marketing-related website and digital content updates for assigned programs, ensuring content is current, accurate, optimized for usr experience and conversion, and aligned with ASM brand and messaging standards.
Audience Growth & Engagement
- Develop audience segmentation and targeting strategies for key stakeholder groups, including scientists, meeting attendees, learners, members, industry partners, early-career professionals, international audiences, and other emerging or priority segments.
- Support growth of ASM's industry partner programs through targeted marketing campaigns, audience development strategies, audience development strategies, lead generation support, and market intelligence.
- Evaluate audience data, market trends, campaign performance, and stakeholder feedback to identify opportunities for growth, retention, engagement, and revenue generation.
Stakeholder, Vendor & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with internal stakeholders, creative resources, external agencies, consultants, and vendors to develop campaign assets, messaging, digital content, advertising plans, and promotional materials that are accurate, audience-focused, brand0aligned, and delivered on schedule.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with meetings, education, scientific programs, membership, publishing, business development, communications and other teams to ensure coordinated planning, consistent messaging, and successful execution of marketing initiatives.
- Support budget planning, expenditure tracking, vendor coordination and resource allocation for assigned marketing campaigns and programs, including monitoring expenditures, reviewing invoices or estimates as appropriate, and ensuring resources are used effectively.
Analytics, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Establish, monitor, and report on campaign performance measures, using data to evaluate effectiveness, identify trends, and guide future marketing strategy.
- Analyze campaign performance, audience behavior, market trends, and engagement data; prepare reports insights, and recommendations for leadership and stakeholders to improce marketing effectiveness and business outcomes.
- Maintain knowledge of marketing best practices, digital engagement trends, association/nonprofit marketing, scientific audience behavior, and relevant tools or technologies; apply that knowledge to improve campaign strategy and execution.
Compliance, Standards & Other Duties
- Ensure marketing work is completed in accordance with ASM policies, brand standard, accessibility expectations, data/privacy requirements, and applicable legal or regulatory requirements.

Manager Responsibility
- For employees reporting directly to this position, the Marketing Manager, Meetings & Scientific Programs is responsible for making hiring decisions, managing the annual performance appraisal process, coaching, mentoring, and providing approval for vacation & time-off requests
- All facets of this position are self-directed within the policies and procedures approved by the Board of Directors, and guidelines established by the department's Director in partnership with the organization's Senior Leadership team
- In partnership with the department's Director, this position is responsible for departmental decision-making regarding personnel actions, the acquisition and utilization of resources, procedures, and control systems
- This position supports the department's Director in overseeing the development of budgets for all existing programs and new proposals, providing signatory approval for expenditures, contracts, subcontracts, and personal service agreements
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods; operate a computer and other office equipment. Communicate verbally and in writing; and participate in virtual and in-person meetings. Pay Transparency Statement
This position has a salary range of $105,024 - $139,162 . Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including relevant experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, geographic considerations, where applicable, and market data. In addition to base compensation, ASM offers a comprehensive benefits package, that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, retirement benefits, paid time-off, and other employee wellness programs.
