Job description
Purpose Mechanical shift technician/Fitter is responsible for Operation & Maintenance and troubleshooting of all non-production utility equipment that supports manufacturing. This includes Boilers, Air Compressors, Cooling Towers, Pumps, HVAC systems, ETP, Material Handling Systems, and PWS & Distribution systems. The role ensures uninterrupted operation of utility systems with high standards of safety, GMP documentation, and compliance.

Job Responsibilities / Deliverables Utility Equipment Operation & Maintenance • Perform daily operation and mechanical maintenance of Utility Area Equipment's. • Troubleshoot and maintain Air Compressors (Screw/Reciprocating). • Maintain Boilers, steam lines, condensate recovery systems, and mechanical steam components. • Carry out O&M of Cooling Towers, checking drift eliminators, nozzles, fill packs, pumps. • Maintain Pumps (Centrifugal/Reciprocating/Submersible) including alignment and balancing. • Maintain PWS & WFI distribution skids, sanitary pumps, and hygienic piping joints. • Inspect and service heat exchangers (Shell & Tube/Plate Type). • Perform mechanical maintenance for AHU/HVAC components such as belt alignment, pulley adjustment, bearings, and dampers. Preventive Maintenance (PM) • Execute preventive maintenance for all utility machines as per SOP & OEM guidelines. • Carry out routine inspection of pumps, valves, bearings, seals, belts, and rotating parts. • Perform lubrication, greasing, tightening, and equipment condition monitoring. • Maintain PM checklists and ensure timely documentation. • Execute PM schedules for all mechanical utility equipment. • Perform condition monitoring (vibration, temperature, noise pattern checks). • Maintain lubrication schedules for mechanical moving parts. • Identify potential failures early and escalate immediately. • Ensure availability of mechanical spare parts and consumables. Breakdown Maintenance • Diagnose mechanical faults and restore equipment in minimum time. • Repair pumps, blowers, compressor modules, piping leaks, valves, and fittings. • Replace mechanical seals, bearings, gaskets, couplings, belts, and filters. Tools, Equipment & Workshop Competency • Skilled in using mechanical tools such as spanners, torque wrenches, pullers, dial gauges, vernier calipers. • Skilled in pump dismantling/assembly and rotating equipment repair. • Basic knowledge of workshop machines (drill, grinder, cutting tools). Documentation & GMP Compliance • Record all maintenance activities in logbooks, PM sheets, and job cards as per GDP. • Follow ALCOA+ principles for maintenance documentation. • Support audits (QA, EHS, regulatory) with accurate and updated records. • Report deviations, breakages, abnormalities, and support CAPA closure. Installation & Commissioning
- Assist in installation and commissioning of utility equipment (Boiler, Compressor, Cooling Tower, HVAC units).
- Support new piping installations, alignment, and equipment levelling. Safety & Compliance • Follow Permit to Work (PTW), Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) and utility safety protocols. • Use PPE and enforce compliance with safety standards. • Support EHS inspections and implement corrective actions.
Qualifications Education: • ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Fitter / Mechanical Technician
Additional notes Skills & Competencies • Strong knowledge of pharma manufacturing equipment and utilities • Strong hands‑on mechanical troubleshooting skills. • Knowledge of pumps, compressors, boilers, cooling towers & HVAC mechanicals. • Ability to read mechanical drawings, GA diagrams, and P&IDs. • Safety-conscious, reliable, and disciplined. • Basic understanding of GMP expectations for utility operations.
