Consultant in Neurology
We are seeking an experienced Consultant in Neurology to join our established service. This is a rare opportunity to help develop the neurology service in an internationally accredited private hospital offering outstanding care.
The neurologist is responsible for the diagnosis, evaluation, and management of patients with neurological disease. The role involves delivering high-quality clinical care, interpreting diagnostic tests, and contributing to the development of neurology services.
The hospital has an established neurology service for both elective and acute settings including established service for stroke, cognitive impairment, and transcranial magnetic stimulation.
Job Purpose
- Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of neurology patients.
- To share, with colleagues, responsibility for the day-to-day management of the medical inpatients and patients presenting acutely.
- To actively participate in continuing medical education (CME).
- Fulfill duties of the weekly timetable including any out-of-hours responsibilities in support of acute general internal medicine.
Principal accountabilities: General Duties and Responsibilities of the Post
- Provision, with consultant colleagues, of a neurology service with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department.
- Out-of-hours responsibilities, including participation in the Consultant on-call rota
- Cover for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absences.
- Participating in medical audit, the clinical quality improvement, and in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- A responsibility to work co-operatively with colleagues and to respect and value their contribution to patient care.
- The post-holder is responsible for data quality and complying with the policies, procedures and accountability arrangements throughout the hospital.
- The post-holder will be responsible for undertaking the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the administration of the department.
- The post-holder will be required to participate in the annual professional practice evaluation process.
- The post-holder will be required to complete annual updates in mandatory training.
- Any other duties that may be required from time to time.
Qualifications / Knowledge Requirements
- Medical Degree (MD or equivalent) from a recognised institution
- Completion of a specialist training programme in neurology or
- A minimum of 5 years post-residency practice experience in busy neurology settings.
Registration Eligibilityy
- Must be eligible for medical registration in the Cayman Islands. (Registration, without additional examinations, is available for applicants who have completed specialist training and are registered in Australia, Canada, Jamaica, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK, or the USA.)
