Job description

Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) invites applications for a Manager, Physician Encounter Strategy & Engagement to join our Physician Encounter Strategy & Engagement department. This position is a full-time opportunity based out of our regional office located in Washington, D.C. with a hybrid work model.

Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group is comprised of more than 1,700 Permanente physicians and nearly 300 staff professionals who come together to make a positive impact on the health and lives of more than 800,000 members in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.

Reporting to the Director, Physician Encounter Strategy & Engagement, the Manager, Physician Encounter Strategy & Engagement provides leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for programs supporting clinician documentation and coding activities across Primary Care, Medical and Surgical Specialties, and Acute and Core Service Lines. You will partner with physicians, executives, and cross-functional teams to improve clinical coding accuracy, strengthen documentation practices, and advance the efficient delivery of high-quality care across the integrated care system.

You can expect to

  • Develop enterprise-level strategies that ensure clinical documentation and coding accurately reflect care delivery and regulatory expectations.
  • Lead clinician outreach and engagement strategies, including Electronic Medical Record communications, chart reviews, targeted interventions, and individual performance discussions.
  • Partner with physician, service line, executive, operational, technical, analytical, and coding leaders to advance program priorities and improve performance.
  • Provide hands-on management and customized support for an assigned service line, including solutions that strengthen clinical initiatives and documentation standards.
  • Analyze clinician- and team-level performance data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare and present scorecards, dashboards, presentations, and actionable insights to support physician and leadership decision-making.
  • Facilitate recurring and ad hoc meetings with clinical and operational leaders, including Physicians in Chief, department chairs, documentation champions, module leads, and specialty teams.
  • Oversee execution, adoption, and continuous improvement of physician encounter strategy priorities across service lines.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Prospective teams, coding partners, peer managers, and department leadership to support consistent and integrated workflows.
  • Ensure patient and organizational information is managed with appropriate confidentiality and in compliance with ethical, legal, regulatory, and organizational standards.

What is required

  • Bachelor's degree required; degree in a health-related field and/or master's degree preferred.
  • At least seven years of experience working within a matrixed organization, with demonstrated success influencing multiple levels of leadership.
  • At least five years of experience managing complex cross-functional initiatives, competing priorities, and strategic programs.
  • At least five years of experience in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and executive-level communications.
  • Clinical and/or healthcare experience preferred.
  • Experience translating organizational strategies into actionable plans, measurable deliverables, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Experience using enterprise collaboration, project management, reporting, data visualization, dashboard, and workflow management tools.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting performance data and translating complex findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems is preferred. KP HealthConnect (EPIC) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, develop and deliver professional, executive level PowerPoint presentations that effectively communicate data, operational insights, and strategic recommendations to clinical and administrative leadership.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to influence diverse clinical, operational, and leadership audiences.
  • Must be able to commute to Kaiser Permanente medical office buildings throughout Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, as needed, and complete occasional business travel.
  • Candidates must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.
  • Must provide documentation for the influenza vaccine as a condition of employment.

The starting annual salary for this position ranges from $100,453 to $125,566 depending on circumstances including an applicant's skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior job experience, training, market data, and other relevant factors. In addition to the salary range above, MAPMG offers rich benefits that add substantial value to the total compensation package.
