Who we need
Reporting to the Supervisor, Sample Logistics, we are hiring Sample Receivers to join our environmental laboratory in Mississauga. As a Sample Receiver, you will play an essential role in the first stage of the laboratory testing process, ensuring environmental samples are accurately received, documented, and prepared for analysis. You will inspect incoming submissions, verify documentation, enter information into our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), label samples, and organize them for storage and testing. This is an on-site position requiring accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to balance physical work with computer-based tasks in a fast-moving environment.
This contract role is based in our Mississauga laboratory and is expected to work on-site five days per week, Monday to Friday, 12:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m OR Tuesday to Saturday, 12:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. on weekdays and Saturday morning shift.
What's in it for you
Build experience in a laboratory environment. Whether you come from retail, hospitality, warehousing, logistics, or another fast-paced setting, you'll receive training on our laboratory processes and gain exposure to environmental testing within a global organization.
Be the foundation of quality. Every sample that enters our laboratory begins with your work. Your attention to detail and commitment to accuracy will help ensure the integrity of testing results that our clients rely on.
Join a collaborative team. You'll work alongside experienced colleagues who value teamwork, safety, and supporting one another to meet daily priorities while maintaining high quality standards.
How you will make an impact
- Receive and verify samples. You will receive environmental samples from clients and couriers, record sample temperatures, review Chain of Custody (COC) documentation for completeness, and ensure submissions are prioritized to meet laboratory turnaround times.
- Inspect and prepare submissions. You will unpack coolers, verify sample contents against documentation, identify discrepancies, apply barcode labels, and organize samples for storage while maintaining sample integrity throughout the receiving process.
- Maintain accurate records. You will enter sample information into our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), create laboratory jobs, scan supporting documentation, and ensure accurate, complete records that support downstream laboratory testing.
- Maintain a safe and organized workspace. You will follow established SOPs and safety procedures, recognize submissions requiring special handling, maintain clean work areas, and contribute to a safe, efficient, and well-organized receiving department.
- Support the team. You will communicate issues promptly, assist other departments when needed, participate in team meetings, and contribute ideas that improve quality, efficiency, and customer service.
What you bring
- The attention to detail. You enjoy work that requires accuracy and consistency. You can carefully review information, identify discrepancies, and ensure details are correct before moving work forward.
- The technical aptitude. You are comfortable using computers for data entry and learning new systems. Experience using inventory, warehouse, or data management software is an asset but not required.
- The organization skills. You can manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and quality, even when work volumes increase throughout the day.
- The problem-solving skills. You use good judgment, think critically, and know when to ask questions if something doesn't look right.
- The physical capability. You are comfortable standing and walking throughout an eight-hour shift, regularly moving and unpacking sample coolers, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
- A science background is helpful but not required. We welcome candidates with experience in fast-paced environments such as retail, hospitality, warehousing, logistics, manufacturing, or customer service.
Compensation
- This posting is required to meet our seasonal capacity.
- The salary for this role is $17.60 per hour.
- Artificial intelligence (AI) tools may be used to support parts of the recruitment and selection process; however, all hiring decisions are made by our hiring managers and talent acquisition team.
