Job description

he A/C Technician is responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, and ventilation systems throughout the hotel. The role ensures that all guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, banquet facilities, back-of-house areas, and critical mechanical systems operate efficiently and reliably, maintaining the highest standards of guest comfort, safety, energy efficiency, and luxury hospitality.

Key Responsibilities

Preventive Maintenance

  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, refrigeration, ventilation, and chilled water systems according to the hotel's maintenance schedule.
  • Inspect, clean, lubricate, and adjust mechanical equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Replace filters, belts, bearings, motors, thermostats, valves, and other HVAC components as required.
  • Maintain accurate preventive maintenance records and equipment history.

Repairs and Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose and repair faults in air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation, fan coil units (FCUs), air handling units (AHUs), package units, split systems, pumps, and associated controls.
  • Respond promptly to guest room and operational maintenance requests.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical faults using appropriate testing equipment.
  • Minimize equipment downtime through timely repairs and effective problem-solving.

Guest Room & Public Area Support

  • Ensure guest room air conditioning systems operate efficiently and quietly.
  • Maintain comfortable temperature and humidity levels throughout the hotel.
  • Respond immediately to guest complaints related to air conditioning or ventilation.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities to minimize disruption to guests and hotel operations.

Plant Room Operations

  • Monitor the performance of chillers, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, and mechanical ventilation systems.
  • Record equipment operating parameters and report abnormalities.
  • Assist with plant shutdowns, startups, and seasonal maintenance activities.
  • Support emergency repairs to critical HVAC infrastructure.

Energy Management

  • Assist in implementing energy conservation initiatives.
  • Monitor HVAC performance to improve operational efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades and maintenance improvements that enhance system reliability and sustainability.
  • Support the hotel's environmental and sustainability objectives.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all occupational health and safety procedures during maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with local building codes, environmental regulations, and refrigerant handling requirements.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Report unsafe conditions and equipment defects immediately.
  • Maintain proper handling, recovery, storage, and disposal of refrigerants in accordance with applicable regulations.

Documentation

  • Complete work orders accurately and promptly through the hotel's maintenance management system.
  • Maintain maintenance logs, inspection records, and equipment documentation.
  • Report recurring equipment issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist in maintaining spare parts inventory.

Teamwork

  • Coordinate with Engineering colleagues and other hotel departments during maintenance activities.
  • Support banquet, conference, and special event operations by ensuring HVAC systems are functioning properly.
  • Assist with general engineering duties when required.
  • Participate in emergency response procedures and technical standby coverage.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or technical certification in HVAC, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, Mechanical Engineering, or a related trade.
  • Valid HVAC or refrigeration certification/license, where required by local regulations.
  • Minimum 3 years of HVAC maintenance experience, preferably in a luxury hotel, resort, hospital, or large commercial facility.
  • Experience working with Building Management Systems (BMS) is an advantage.
