Job description

DGI has a current need for full-time Electrical Designer/Engineer to join our AE team in support of a local healthcare client. Our client works on various projects that call for studies, analysis, and/or renovation of laboratories, offices, and support areas, requiring detailed surveys to determine the existing conditions of the spaces being renovated and of the related electrical systems, including but not limited to power generation and distribution, electrical safety and code compliance, audio-visual capabilities, and indoor and outdoor lighting systems.

Electrical engineering services require close coordination with other disciplines to provide multiple electrical system selections, spatial coordination, and equipment recommendations to accommodate renovated spaces, fulfill the design intent, provide energy efficient performance, abide by the required code compliance, and perform general good engineering practices.

Duties and Responsibilities

The candidate shall provide, but is not limited to, the following Electrical Engineering Services as required:

  • Field surveys and documents the existing conditions and produce accurate electrical drawings of the existing conditions.
  • Provides and follows verbal and written instructions to revise, develop and produce plans, sections, diagrams, schedules details appropriately.
  • Coordinates the electrical requirements with the architectural design.
  • Coordinates with other disciplines in the production of Construction Documents in accordance with identified project specific requirements. Construction Documents include Studies, Basis of Design, Construction Drawings and Specifications.
  • Produces all required electrical details for construction of complete, code compliant, fully functional systems.
  • Works closely with Senior MEP Engineers and Architects to develop construction documents, project specifications and perform construction administration.
  • Incorporates all contractor red-line drawings into record drawings for inclusion into space allocation database, after major renovations and minor alterations are completed, by using Revit or other BIM techniques.
  • Field Investigation: Visit the project site to determine existing and planned future conditions affecting the project design and other data required for modeling of the system; obtain all necessary dimensional, utility, physical, functional data, and operating schemes; verify all applicable as-built drawings and determine any relevant existing conditions not available on existing as-built drawings; interview the clients’ staff to obtain detailed functional requirements and historical design problems and obtain any special job conditions for inclusion in the specifications including security, and utility interruptions.
  • Production : Demonstrated proficiency in Autodesk Revit, with the ability to develop and maintain accurate building information models and produce high-quality construction documents, as all project drawings are developed using Revit.
  • Communication and Problem-Solving: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with excellent analytical and critical-thinking abilities. Capable of making sound design decisions, effectively prioritizing tasks, and independently managing workflow to meet project objectives and deadlines.
  • Accompany PM (if needed) for the pre-proposal walk and providing the input regarding scope of work for your respective discipline and time required to complete the project
  • Receiving the task from PM and clarifying all questions
  • Conducting site survey
  • Setting up your discipline drawings
  • Working independently or with minimal direction from PM or Team Lead on the design documents. Design documents shall include:
  • drawings
  • edited per project specifications based on the client spec templates
  • Basis of Design, which consists of the narrative and appendix parts
  • Coordinating your discipline drawings with other disciplines throughout the design process
  • Attending weekly design team meetings
  • Timely providing submission documentation as well as CA documentation to PM
  • Preparing record drawings

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline OR 10+ years of experience with electrical systems and their design;
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in architecture, engineering, and/or construction office/studio environment;
  • Understanding of applicable electrical building design standards and codes such as the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), National Electrical Code (NEC), and International Building Code (IBC) is required;
  • Specific skills required include circuit lighting and power, fill in panel schedules, motor circuit sizing, lighting calculations, SKM Power Tools, and fire alarm system design and devices layout;
  • Proficiency in electrical design using AutoCAD and REVIT; and
  • Background in healthcare and/or laboratory electrical design is a plus.

Pay Range: $115,000 - $130,000/year depending on experience

Location : Bethesda, MD

Working Hours: Normal Work Hours – Monday – Friday (anticipate 40 per week).
