What3Words
Frontend Automation QA Engineer
Job description
We're looking for an experienced senior Frontend QA Automation Engineer to join our fast-growing tech team in HCMC, focusing on web applications and browser-based user journeys. You’ll be responsible for designing and implementing robust, scalable frontend automation using Playwright to ensure our users have a seamless, high-performance web experience.
Overview
Our mission is to become the global standard for addressing. Street addresses weren’t designed for 2026. They aren’t accurate enough to specify building entrances, and they don’t exist for parks, rural areas and many parts of the world. This makes it hard to find places and causes problems and inefficiencies on a global scale.
That’s why we created what3words. We divided the world into 3m squares and gave each square a unique combination of three words. It’s the easiest way to find and share precise locations.
Over the last year, what3words has been used in 193 countries, and our monthly active users continue to grow at an impressive pace. Our tech is used by emergency services, delivery companies, eCommerce businesses, ride-hailing apps and NGOs, and is integrated into the navigation systems of millions of cars around the world.
The role
You’ll be joining our fast-growing tech team, focusing on our web applications, frontend user journeys, and browser-based experiences. You’ll be responsible for designing and implementing robust, scalable automation using Playwright to ensure our users have a seamless, high-performance experience.
Your rigorous attention to detail and excellent communication skills will be essential. If you are passionate about quality and have a proven competence in automating test cases for frontend and web applications, we’d like to hear from you.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain frontend end-to-end test suites in Playwright and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines for our core web applications.
- Ensure consistent functionality and UI/UX integrity across modern browsers, responsive layouts, and screen resolutions.
- Conduct a mix of manual exploration and automated regression to find and report frontend-specific bugs, from flaky UI states and accessibility issues to broken journeys.
- Collaborate with Software Engineers and Product Managers to develop effective strategies and test plans for our web applications.
- Help troubleshoot issues in production and staging environments.
- Conduct post-release/post-implementation testing including regression, accessibility, and integration testing for frontend systems.
Essential Skills
- Frontend Automation: Experience building robust web automation frameworks using Playwright, with a focus on reliable end-to-end and cross-browser functional testing.
- Frontend CI/CD Integration: Experience integrating Playwright test suites into build pipelines, including parallel execution, test reporting, trace/video capture, and flaky test management.
- JavaScript/TypeScript Proficiency: Strong JavaScript or TypeScript programming skills, with confidence building maintainable test frameworks and utilities.
- DevOps Ecosystem: Experience with build and configuration tools such as GitHub Actions and CircleCI.
- Browser & UI Savvy: A keen eye for frontend-specific nuances, including responsive behaviour, accessibility, browser compatibility, loading states, and visual consistency.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication in spoken and written English, paired with a product mindset and rigorous attention to detail.
Extra credit if you
- Have worked with modern frontend frameworks such as React, Next.js, Vue, or Angular.
- Experience working with backend services.
- Experience with BDD and implementing Cucumber for automation.
- Have experience with accessibility testing, visual regression testing, or performance testing for web applications.
- Are able to understand the business context of what you’re doing – understand the value your work creates.
- Experience with Agentic AI workflows for testing.
