Job description

Title : Policy Analyst, Budget Policy

Reports to: Director, Grover M. Hermann Center for the Federal Budget

Job Summary: The Policy Analyst, Budget Policy engages in research, publication, education programs, and other work concerning a broad array of fiscal policy issues, including government spending, the federal budget, and other economic issues. The Policy Analyst will prepare backgrounders, issue briefs, and commentary regarding issue portfolio with a focus on budgetary policy and government spending. The Policy Analyst is also responsible for representing Heritage on budget policy in meetings with policy makers and coalition partners.

Job Duties

  • Conduct professional research, policy analysis, and writing for publication by Heritage and, as appropriate, other outlets.
  • Track legislative developments on spending, including annual appropriations bills.
  • Organize coalition and public events.
  • Represent Heritage at public functions, professional conferences, and other meetings.
  • Work with others across Heritage and in other organizations, including Heritage Action, to achieve Heritage objectives.
  • Assist in preparation of federal budget options and Congressional testimonies.
  • Participate in the public policy community.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate degree related to public policy such as political management, economics, finance, law, or business, or the acquisition of equivalent level of technical and research skills

Experience: 3+ years of experience in public policy research or advocacy

Communication: Effective oral communication and thoroughly competent writer

Technology: Microsoft Suite

  • Exercise initiative, within mission and established policies, to achieve assigned objectives.
  • Possess good entrepreneurial skills and willingness to take initiative.

The salary range for this role is $86,000 - $110,000 annually. This range is a good-faith estimate, and the final salary offered to a selected candidate depends on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, and other qualifications; internal and external market pay for comparable jobs; and level of hire based on aforementioned qualifications.
