POSITION OVERVIEW

The Emergency Room (ER) Nurse Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating all nursing services within the Emergency Department. The position ensures the delivery of safe, timely, patient-centered, and evidence-based emergency nursing care by implementing nursing policies, procedures, and standards. The ER Nurse Manager oversees daily department operations, staffing, patient flow, quality improvement, patient safety, infection prevention and control, and regulatory compliance to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPOSIBILITIES

  • Emergency Patient Care
  • Oversees the delivery of safe, timely, and quality emergency nursing care.
  • Ensures appropriate triage, assessment, treatment, admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
  • Monitors patient conditions and coordinates timely interventions with physicians and the healthcare team.
  • Ensures compliance with physician orders, nursing standards, and clinical protocols.
  • Assists in emergency preparedness and disaster response activities.

II. Department Operations

  • Manages patient flow to ensure efficient and timely emergency services.
  • Coordinates staffing and resources to meet operational demands.
  • Ensures the availability and proper maintenance of emergency equipment, medications, and medical supplies.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and organized department environment.

III. Quality and Patient Safety

  • Monitors compliance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Reviews patient care outcomes and implements quality improvement initiatives.
  • Investigates incidents and supports patient safety and risk management activities.
  • Participates in hospital accreditation and quality assurance programs.

IV. Infection Prevention and Control

  • Serves as the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Link Nurse for the department.
  • Ensures compliance with infection prevention and control policies and practices.
  • Participates in infection surveillance, audits, and staff education.

V. Leadership and Staff Management

  • Supervises and provides leadership to Emergency Room nursing personnel.
  • Plans, organizes, and oversees the daily operations of the Emergency Department.
  • Assigns staff duties based on patient needs, staff competency, and workload.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and provides coaching and staff development.
  • Ensures adequate staffing through effective scheduling and coordination with Nursing Administration.
  • Promotes teamwork, accountability, and continuous professional growth.

VI. Administrative Responsibilities

  • Prepares departmental reports and maintains required documentation.
  • Participates in hospital committees, meetings, and quality improvement activities.
  • Assists in budget planning and effective resource utilization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Nursing Director or hospital management.

OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY & HEALTH

  • Uphold the highest standards of quality and efficiency in line with hospital quality programs (e.g. Safecare, DOH, etc.) requirements.
  • Ensure a safe and secure work environment by strictly adhering to infection prevention and control protocols such as but not limited to handwashing, wearing of PPE, etc.
  • Identifying, reporting & self-managing hazards where appropriate.
  • Early and accurate reporting of incidents at work and raising issues of concern when identified.
  • Commit to sustainable and eco-friendly work practices by minimizing waste, optimizing resource usage, and actively participating in initiatives that promote environmental stewardship.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum Education Required: Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • License/Certificate Required: License by the Professional Regulatory Board of Nursing, Philippines, BLS, ACLS, PALS, Trauma Certificate
  • Minimum Experience Required: At least a 1-2 years experience as a Staff Nurse

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Fluent in local dialects such as Bisaya and Tagalog.
  • Able to communicate well in English, verbal and written.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of emergency nursing principles, practices, and standards of care.
  • Knowledge of emergency patient triage, stabilization, resuscitation, and trauma management.
  • Knowledge of emergency preparedness, disaster management, and mass casualty response.
  • Ability to lead, supervise, motivate, and develop nursing staff effectively.
  • Ability to make sound clinical and administrative decisions under pressure and in rapidly changing situations.
  • Ability to assess, prioritize, and coordinate multiple patient care activities simultaneously.
  • Ability to manage patient flow and allocate resources efficiently in a fast-paced emergency environment.
