Job description

Job Summary

CNS Group is seeking a skilled and experienced Automotive Engineer for a transport and diversified services company in Morogoro. The role is responsible for overseeing the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of a fleet of vehicles, ensuring all automotive systems are operating at peak performance, safety, and reliability standards. The ideal candidate should possess solid hands on experience in automotive engineering, strong technical problem solving skills, and a proven track record of maintaining and improving vehicle performance within a busy transport environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair a wide range of vehicle systems including engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension, electrical systems, and exhaust systems to maintain optimal fleet performance.
  • Perform scheduled and preventive maintenance on all company vehicles, ensuring all servicing activities are completed on time and in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company standards.
  • Conduct thorough vehicle assessments and prepare detailed diagnostic reports, recommending appropriate corrective actions to management based on findings.
  • Oversee and supervise day to day workshop operations, ensuring all repair and maintenance activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards.
  • Manage spare parts inventory, tools, and workshop consumables, coordinating with the procurement team for timely availability of all required automotive parts and materials.
  • Ensure all vehicles comply with road safety regulations, roadworthiness standards, and applicable Tanzania transport authority requirements at all times.
  • Identify and implement improvements to vehicle maintenance procedures, workshop processes, and fleet management practices to enhance operational efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle service records, maintenance logs, and repair histories for all fleet vehicles, ensuring all documentation is up to date and properly archived.
  • Coordinate with fleet supervisors and operations teams to schedule vehicle maintenance activities with minimal disruption to transport operations and service delivery.
  • Respond promptly to vehicle breakdowns and emergency repair requests, providing swift technical intervention to restore vehicle functionality and minimise operational disruptions.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands on experience in automotive engineering, vehicle maintenance, or fleet management is preferred.
  • Strong practical knowledge of vehicle systems including engines, transmissions, braking, suspension, and automotive electrical systems is preferred.
  • Experience working with a diverse range of vehicles including passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, and heavy duty trucks is preferred.
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools, equipment, and software for vehicle fault detection and performance analysis is recommended.
  • Knowledge of road safety regulations and vehicle roadworthiness standards applicable in Tanzania is recommended.
  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex automotive faults efficiently is recommended.
  • Valid driving licence is preferred.
  • Experience in fleet management or transport sector workshop operations is an added advantage.
