Job Summary
The Inpatient Psychologist assesses, diagnoses, and treats patients with behavioral, psychiatric, or cognitive disorders. In this position, the inpatient psychologist provides a broad range of comprehensive psychological services (e.g. assessments, evaluations, psychoeducation) dealing with complex issues related to the complete range of psychiatric disorders as well as complex psychiatric and comorbid medical conditions. This position will work primarily in the inpatient psychiatric setting and may be asked to support psychologists who work on inpatient medical units, either by assisting with psychology consults or by providing brief assessments, depending on the needs on the service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Independently conducts a wide range of psychological services on JPS’s inpatient psychiatric units and in the Main Hospital that include, but is not limited to, assessment of emotional, psychological and behavioral concerns. · Works in consultation with interdisciplinary team members to facilitate accurate diagnosis, patient education, and treatment planning. Consults with patient care teams to develop tailored treatment plans that meet the specific needs of the patient. · Provides screening for cognitive deficits to address specific functional questions or to determine whether a complete psychological evaluation is needed after psychiatric and medical stabilization, and/or makes referrals to appropriate services to meet the needs of the patient. · Performs assessments to support decision-making when there are questions about a patient's ability to make medical decisions, perform other specific functions, or live independently, and provides recommendations to interdisciplinary clinical teams. · Provides clinical supervision of psychology interns, practicum students and psychiatry residents. · Provides didactics for psychology interns and practicum students, psychiatry residents, faculty, and other medical professionals. · Consults with physicians and staff on a wide variety of patient care issues. · Assists in developing individualized care plans as necessary and appropriate. · Monitors patient progress and adjusts treatment plan as appropriate when requested by care team. · Provision of brief interventions to psychiatrically ill patients may also be required from time to time · Monitors guidelines for the management of care and for ensuring that services are delivered in compliance with the guidelines established by JPS Health Network and Acclaim Health. · Provides evidence-based and compassionate care to all patients as assigned to contribute to successful patient outcomes and maintain high patient satisfaction scores. Demonstrates patient-centered and patient-valued behavior. · Maintains a collaborative environment with other referring physicians, residents, clinical staff, and support staff to provide quality patient care. · Supports academic, educational and research endeavors within JPS’s Behavioral Health Service. · Attends Performance Improvement Programs and Peer Review committee meetings as requested; and is an active participant in this process when needed. · Partners with the Psychological Division to build a positive brand and a positive patient/customer experience for all those who encounter JPS Health Network, including health network staff, vendors, outside partners, patients, stakeholders, and local community leaders. · Serves as a resource to the community. · Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
· PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology
· Education Requirement o Doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) at the time the program was completed OR, a doctoral degree in any area of psychology and, successful completion of a respecialization program meeting both of the following conditions: a) the specialization program must be completed in an APA or an APPIC accredited doctoral-level clinical psychology training program; b) the specialty in which retraining occurred was consistent with the training needed to be an inpatient assessment psychologist and included a dissertation that was primarily psychological in nature.
· Internship Requirement: o Successful completion of a clinical or counseling psychology internship training program that was accredited by APA or APPIC at the time of completion.
· Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training: o Candidates must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in the State of Texas or be eligible for Texas Board licensure as outlined by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council.
