A career at Breville is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. It’s more than working for a global leader; it’s an opportunity to be a part of something that impacts people all over the world.

About Breville Over the past 90+ years Breville has grown to become an iconic global brand, delivering kitchen products to over 70 countries around the globe. Breville enhances people's lives through the delivery of brilliant innovation and thoughtful design based on deep consumer insights and creating products that combine thoughtful design, reliable performance and practical innovation. Our firmware team works across embedded software, IoT connectivity, advanced control systems and product validation, supporting new products from early prototypes through to launch.

About the Role We are looking for a Product Test Engineer – Embedded Systems to join our in-house engineering team in Alexandria. This role is focused on testing embedded firmware and connected product behaviour on real hardware. You will help improve product quality by developing test documentation, building automated test capability, validating firmware on prototypes and production-intent hardware, and working closely with firmware, electronics, mechanical, UX and product teams.

This is not an electronics design role. However, the role does require enough electronics literacy to work confidently with embedded hardware, lab tools, test fixtures and circuit schematics when investigating product behaviour or test failures. This is a hands-on role in a changing technical environment. As our products, firmware platforms, test tools and connected technologies evolve, you will be expected to keep learning. We do not expect you to know everything on day one, but we do expect curiosity, persistence and the ability to build practical understanding quickly.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and maintain test documentation and validation reports for embedded firmware and product features.
  • Run manual, automated and exploratory tests across embedded firmware, connected features and product control systems.
  • Support hardware-in-the-loop testing and fixture-based validation using Python, pytest or similar tools.
  • Reproduce, isolate and document defects clearly, including issues involving firmware, hardware, test scripts, fixtures or environmental conditions.
  • Work with firmware engineers to clarify expected behaviour, edge cases and testability requirements.
  • Contribute to CI pipelines for automated test execution and reporting.
  • Test device communication over interfaces such as serial, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, BLE, MQTT or similar protocols.
  • Use lab equipment to support investigation, validation and debugging of embedded product behaviour.

Essential Skills

  • Open to a range of experience levels.
  • Strong background in firmware testing, embedded software testing or product validation for physical devices.
  • Strong Python coding skills, including experience with pytest or similar test frameworks.
  • Experience testing embedded devices, connected products, hardware prototypes or production-intent hardware.
  • Experience debugging issues across firmware, test scripts, communication interfaces, fixtures and hardware behaviour.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD systems such as Jenkins.
  • Experience with source control and issue-tracking tools such as Git and Jira.
  • Strong attention to detail, with clear written and verbal communication.

Desirable Skills

  • Ability to read circuit schematics to identify connectors, signals, test points and expected electrical behaviour.
  • Comfortable using basic lab tools such as a multimeter, oscilloscope, logic analyser, bench power supply and debugger/programmer.
  • Familiarity with embedded interfaces such as UART, I2C, SPI, GPIO, JTAG or SWD.
  • Familiarity with IoT protocols and platforms such as MQTT, AWS IoT Core or similar.
  • Understanding of Unix-based systems, FreeRTOS or bare-metal firmware environments.
  • Experience building or maintaining automated test fixtures.
  • Exposure to regulatory, reliability, manufacturing or production test environments.
  • Electronics design or PCB layout experience is helpful but not required.

Benefits / Why Join

  • Work on physical products that are designed in Sydney and sold globally.
  • Join an in-house engineering team working across firmware, hardware, connected products and product design.
  • Test real hardware, prototypes and production-intent products rather than only software applications.
  • Collaborate with firmware engineers, electronics engineers, mechanical engineers, industrial designers, UX designers, chefs and product specialists.
  • Contribute to products that combine embedded control, sensors, connectivity and user experience.
  • Build practical test capability that directly affects product quality and customer experience.

What we offer you

  • Flexible work arrangements
  • Competitive compensation package
  • A fun and rewarding team environment
  • Opportunity to work for an Australian Stock Exchange listed company
  • Employee assistance program
  • Paid parental leave policy
  • Employee discounts of up to 40% on all our electrical products
  • Corporate health and wellness benefits
