About the role

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the Engineering component of New Product Development projects, supporting the Mechanical Engineering Managers, Project team, NPD Designers, Quality Department, and NPD Commercial, in the delivery of innovative and quality Engineering solutions and services to meet the timing, product specification, and commercial objectives of the NPD programme.

Key responsibilities include

  • Detailed mechanical design, using 3D CAD, including DFM/DFA, for a wide range of materials, production/fabrication processes in order to optimise performance and cost.
  • Thermal and mechanical simulation modelling using ANSYS and SolidWorks followed by experimental testing of prototypes to verify.
  • Carry out development and design of mechanical systems and/or electrical circuits in conjunction with NPD Designers and external resources, to meet agreed product performance, quality, and production capacity criteria.
  • Delivery of high quality, accurate design that is appropriate for the product specification and project timing requirements.
  • Create control and test plans for component, sub assembly and product level assessments.
  • Prepare and submit products to UL, IEC and EMC Compliance laboratories in –line with project plans.
  • Prepare and submit technical documentation to support product compliance testing

We’re Interested in Hearing from People Who Have

  • Tertiary studies in and sound theoretical knowledge of Mechanical Engineering
  • Solid experience managing appliance safety approvals through Compliance Laboratories
  • Solid experience in technical Engineering documentation, product specifications, Bills of Materials, etc.
  • Strong experience in Materials Engineering and small appliance design
  • Strong experience in Engineering Measurement Systems and Electrical Laboratory testing
  • Strong experience in Manufacturing Engineering
  • Hands on Project Management experience
  • Hands on experience with statistical analysis and applied quality auditing
  • Hands on experience in Industrial Engineering design, component detailing, drafting / engineering drawing, 3D CAD modelling
  • Hands on experience and practical skills in prototyping and workshop practice.
  • Appreciation of commercial aspects of product development
