Description
The World Bank Country Office in Luanda, Angola is seeking a highly organized and energized professional, capable of operating effectively in a very demanding, fast-paced, and culturally diverse environment, to work as a Driver. The main purpose of the job is to provide professional driving services to the World Bank Country Office in Luanda, Angola. The Driver will be a member of the Country Office staff recruited locally and based in Luanda, Angola. This is an office support job, which contributes to the smooth running of the daily operations of the Country Office. The Driver works closely with Resource Management and administrative teams.
The Driver will drive office vehicles for the transportation of staff, usually within Luanda but also to other locations within Angola (and at times neighboring countries); and deliver and/or collect mails, documents, pouches, and other errands.
Duties and Responsibilities
To perform according to expectations, the incumbent would be expected to:
- Drive the World Bank staff to/from airport, meeting sites, including business travels to/from locations throughout Burundi.
- Drive the assigned office vehicle, ensuring the safety of staff, vehicle, and other road users.
- Preventing accidents with high consideration of other road users, demonstrate professional maneuvers and capacity to handle emergency situations.
- Deliver and/or collect mail, documents, pouches, and other errands efficiently and in a cost-effective manner possible.
- Meet high level staff at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities when required.
- Ensure that the vehicle insurance and maintenance service schedule is up to date.
- Inspect the vehicle daily for tire pressure, engine oil, brake fluid, power steering fluid, radiator coolant, fuel level, battery water level and ensure that the vehicle is always fitted with a spare tire and that it is in a road worthy condition.
- Perform minor routine repairs, alert the supervisor for major repairs, and ensure that the vehicle is always clean (interior and exterior) and that all passengers have always fastened their safety belts during a journey.
- Ensure that the vehicle is equipped with First Aid kit and that he/she is trained in providing first aid. Check expiry date of consumables in the kit and seek replacement as appropriate.
- Fill regularly and accurately the logbook for official trips as per the World Bank’s policies, including daily trip mileage, fuel consumption, oil changes etc.
- Observe the host country’s traffic rules and regulations.
- Always check and adhere to security information from the supervisor/UNDSS or the environment for safe drive within and outside the cities.
- Maintain confidentiality of any passenger’s discussions or phone conversations.
- Report accidents or incidents immediately to the supervisor and ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.
- Perform any other task assigned by the Country Manager and/or supervisor.
Selection Criteria
Note - Preference will be given to local talent, that is, applicants that are authorized to work in the duty station for any employer. Internal applicants may apply per existing guidelines.
Among other criteria, the successful candidate should be holding:
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent with basic computer skills. •Valid Driver’s License and capable of Defensive Driving. •Thorough knowledge of driving rules and regulations and be conversant with the Road Security Code. •A minimum of 5 years’ professional driving experience with a safe driving record. •Proficient to effectively communicate in Portuguese (verbal and written). Working knowledge of English would be a valuable advantage. •Possess basic skills in minor vehicle repairs and maintenance. Vocational training in auto maintenance and repair would be a plus. •Knowledge of UN security procedures, VHF Radio call and protocol aspects will be an added advantage. •Ability to pass World Bank security clearance, driving and medical tests, UN DSS basic and advanced security clearance examinations. •Strong interpersonal skills, client orientation and commitment to a team-oriented work. •Availability to drive throughout Angola and neighboring countries.
