We are seeking a Transportation Planner who is passionate about transit planning, multimodal mobility, and improving how people move through the communities we serve. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful public and private sector projects throughout the Pacific Northwest while working in a collaborative, employee-focused environment. This position is based in our Portland office and will support AKS' growing transportation planning and traffic engineering practice.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with transportation planning projects focused on transit, multimodal mobility, and complete streets.
- Support transit corridor studies, parking plans, transit development plans, and mobility improvement strategies.
- Analyze transportation data, travel patterns, demographic information, and mobility trends to support planning recommendations.
- Participate in corridor studies, transportation system plans, mobility hub planning, and first/last-mile connectivity analyses.
- Coordinate with engineers, planners, GIS professionals, and public agencies to develop integrated transportation solutions.
- Research local, state, and federal transportation policies, and regulations.
- Utilize GIS and data visualization tools to communicate transportation planning concepts.
- Contribute to transportation impact studies and multimodal transportation analyses.
- Develop recommendations that improve safety, mobility, accessibility, equity, and community connectivity.
- Attend community outreach meetings, supporting presentations and materials development
Who You Are
- A passion for delivering high quality transportation plans and studies.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, urban planning, public policy, or a related field.
- 3-4 years of professional transportation planning experience in a consulting or public agency environment.
- Experience supporting transit planning or multimodal transportation projects.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- Experience preparing planning reports and presentation materials.
- Proficient in utilizing ArcGIS, Microsoft Office Suite, and other related transportation planning software.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments while meeting project schedules.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience working with transit agencies, MPOs, counties, cities, or state DOTs.
- Proficient in utilizing Visum, Synchro, InDesign, Sketchup, and other related transportation planning software.
- Working towards obtaining professional EIT or AICP certifications.
- Familiarity with travel demand forecasting concepts and transportation modeling.
- Experience with transportation system plans (TSPs), corridor studies, or regional mobility plans.
- Experience facilitating public involvement or stakeholder engagement activities.
