Job description

Reports to: Legal Counsel, who is also the Data Protection Officer & Company Secretary for the Group

About the Role

We are looking for a junior lawyer (newly qualified up to 1 PQE), to join our small but high-impact legal function for the wider Group across the UK and EU. You will work closely with and provide direct support to our Legal Counsel, who also holds the roles of Data Protection Officer and Company Secretary, gaining broad exposure across commercial law, commercial property, data protection/privacy, and corporate governance. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to develop generalist in-house experience early in their career, with genuine ownership and responsibility from day one.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, draft, and negotiate a range of commercial contracts (e.g. supplier agreements, NDAs, SaaS, service agreements, terms and conditions, partnership agreements)
  • Support on corporate matters including governance documentation, board resolutions, and entity management
  • Conduct legal research and provide clear, practical summaries of legal/regulatory issues
  • Assist with due diligence on commercial and corporate transactions as needed
  • Review and assist with leases, licences, and other property-related agreements (e.g. rent reviews, lease renewals, assignments, landlord/tenant correspondence)
  • Support on property aspects of wider commercial or corporate transactions
  • Monitor compliance with UK & EU GDPR and other applicable data protection laws and support day-to-day data protection compliance
  • Help review and update internal policies
  • Assist with statutory filings, company registers, and governance documentation
  • Support preparation for board and shareholder meetings (agendas, minutes, resolutions)
  • Manage own workload independently, escalating appropriately and flagging risk where needed
  • Liaise with external counsel where required and help manage related costs/instructions
  • Support ad hoc projects across the Group as they arise

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified lawyer or due to qualify shortly (England & Wales, or equivalent jurisdiction)
  • Highly organised, with excellent attention to detail and strong personal systems for managing multiple workstreams, deadlines, and competing priorities across different practice areas
  • Strong ambition and drive, with a genuine desire to learn and develop quickly across a broad range of legal disciplines
  • Solid grounding in corporate/commercial law, ideally contract review/negotiation experience (in-house or private practice)
  • Some exposure to commercial property matters is helpful, though not essential
  • Comfortable using AI tools to support efficiency (e.g. research, drafting, summarising), while understanding their limitations and applying independent legal judgement rather than relying on them
  • Exposure to data protection law is a plus, though not essential — willingness to learn this area is more important than prior expertise
  • German language skills preferred but not essential
  • Self-starter who uses initiative, comfortable working with limited supervision
  • Pragmatic, commercially minded approach — able to identify and communicate risk clearly to non-lawyers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; confident liaising with stakeholders at all levels
  • Discretion and sound judgement, given exposure to sensitive corporate and data protection matters
  • Genuine interest in building broad in-house generalist experience
