Leadingeducators
Director of Implementation, Design, and Coaching - Math
Job description
What We Do
At Leading Educators (LE), we know that excellent teaching is the most important driver of student success. The moment a student steps foot in the classroom, their opportunity to learn depends on how prepared their teacher is to translate complex content knowledge, standards, and their knowledge of that student into lessons that help them learn deeply and apply their thinking to the real world.
That’s a big lift, and it often happens alone. As a national nonprofit, we partner with school systems to overcome persistent instructional challenges, foster intentional collaboration and adult learning by design, and ignite new possibilities through systemic solutions at the intersection of teaching, talent, and technology.
We work shoulder-to-shoulder with educators at every level of the education system to strengthen their instructional and leadership practices, bring a vision for excellent instruction to life with consistency, and ensure every student reaches their full potential.
Through direct support, strategic advising, innovation pilots, and best-in-class research, we help educators work toward a future where every student is ready to thrive. Learn more about our work at leadingeducators.org.

Position
Imagine a role where your expertise in instructional leadership directly transforms how teachers deliver mathematics instruction to students. As the Director of Implementation, Design, and Coaching - Math, you'll be the driving force behind systemic instructional improvement across multiple schools in South San Francisco Unified School District. You'll own the full lifecycle of implementation—from strategic launch through measurable impact—while serving as both a strategic partner to district leaders and a hands-on instructional coach who designs and facilitates professional learning that sticks.
This is not a behind-the-scenes role. You'll be in schools weekly, working shoulder-to-shoulder with teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators to strengthen K-8 math instruction through collaborative learning cycles, student work analysis, and curriculum implementation aligned to Illustrative Mathematics. You'll translate complex district priorities into actionable project plans, monitor progress with precision, and adjust strategies in real-time based on qualitative and quantitative data. Your work will directly influence how teachers plan lessons, deliver instruction, and help students apply mathematical thinking to the real world.
Leading Educators partners with school systems to overcome persistent instructional challenges and foster intentional collaboration by design. In this role, you become the connective tissue between district vision and school-level execution—surfacing insights, managing risks, and ensuring that every professional learning experience, coaching interaction, and implementation milestone drives measurable improvement in instructional practice and student outcomes.
Do you have expertise in…
- Designing and facilitating high-quality professional learning cycles that translate standards, curriculum, and instructional research into teacher practice and measurable outcomes?
- Leading complex, multi-school implementation efforts with accountability for measurable results, while managing timelines, milestones, and stakeholder expectations?
- Providing instructional coaching to school and district leaders that strengthens their ability to observe instruction, identify look-fors aligned to curriculum, and give actionable feedback?
- K-8 mathematics instruction, Illustrative Mathematics curriculum, California ELD Standards, and evidence-based instructional practices that accelerate student learning?
Do you enjoy…
- Building and maintaining authentic working relationships with school and district leaders, where trust enables honest conversations about implementation challenges and instructional growth?
- Analyzing qualitative and quantitative data to uncover patterns, set coaching priorities, and make strategic decisions that refine implementation and maximize impact?
- Translating strategy into clear, sequenced action plans with defined owners, check-in points, and accountability for outcomes?
- Developing the instructional leadership capacity of others—whether through direct coaching, feedback, or mentoring team members to strengthen their design and coaching skills?
If you've answered affirmatively to these questions and meet the following prerequisites, we urge you to seize this opportunity. This role calls for the following:
- Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in education, instructional leadership, curriculum implementation, or district-level instructional support
- Deep content expertise in K-8 mathematics instruction, coaching, and instructional leadership, with demonstrated knowledge of Illustrative Mathematics and California ELD Standards
- Proven track record leading complex implementation efforts across multiple schools or at the district level, with accountability for measurable instructional outcomes
- Demonstrated experience designing and facilitating professional learning that is standards-aligned, coherent, and produces measurable changes in teacher practice
- Experience providing instructional coaching to school or district leaders that strengthens their practice and leadership effectiveness
- Experience serving as a primary client or partner relationship owner within a district or multi-school context, managing expectations and maintaining accountability for satisfaction and impact
- Experience translating district or organizational strategy into actionable project plans with clear milestones, sequencing, and accountability for outcomes
- Experience managing and developing staff or team members, with responsibility for ensuring quality execution and continuous improvement
- Practitioner-level AI fluency and comfort using systems to track, monitor, and communicate coaching and implementation progress
