Program Overview – Program, Unit The Housing Development Summer Student supports the Housing Growth and Development team in advancing affordable and supportive housing projects from concept through pre-development and construction. This position contributes to WoodGreen’s strategic objective of expanding its housing portfolio to 5,000 units by 2030 by supporting initiatives that accelerate pipeline growth, strengthen development partnerships, and enhance internal development capacity. Working as part of the Housing Growth and Development team, the Housing Development Summer Student provides administrative, research, coordination, and project support across multiple housing development initiatives. The role works collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to support feasibility analysis, funding applications, development documentation, meeting coordination, and project tracking. The position operates in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment where strong organization, attention to detail, clear communication, and the ability to manage multiple tasks are essential. The Summer Student is expected to be proactive, eager to learn, and mission-driven, with a demonstrated commitment to housing equity and WoodGreen’s broader community impact.
What You Will Do
- Assist with new project feasibility analysis, including technical, planning, environmental, and financial due diligence.
- Support the preparation of letters of intent and memoranda of understanding for development partnerships, including tracking revisions and maintaining version control.
- Gain exposure to development budgets and proformas, and support related documentation and analysis as required.
- Monitor municipal, provincial, and federal funding and grant programs, as well as the evolving policy environment for affordable and supportive housing.
- Assist with funding applications for municipal, provincial, and federal programs.
- Support the drafting and submission of Requests for Proposals.
- Coordinate internal and external meetings, prepare agendas, take minutes, distribute action items, and track follow-ups and outstanding items.
- Maintain organized project folders and ensure project documentation is accessible and up to date.
- Track project milestones, approvals, critical dates, and update project trackers and dashboards. What You Bring to the Team
- Enrollment in or completion of a bachelor’s degree or post-secondary program in urban planning, real estate development, public policy, business, social sciences, community development, or a related field is preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and lived or volunteer experience may be considered.
- Previous experience or demonstrated interest in affordable housing, supportive housing, community development, planning, project coordination, research, administration, or non-profit/community services is an asset. What Will Set You Apart
