A Respiratory Therapist (RT) is a healthcare professional specializing in the assessment and treatment of patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive respiratory assessments and continuously monitor patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions.
  • Administer and manage respiratory therapies, including oxygen therapy, nebulization, airway clearance, and mechanical ventilation.
  • Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling and analysis, and contribute to clinical decision-making through accurate interpretation of results.
  • Educate patients and families on respiratory disease management, treatment plans, and the proper use of respiratory devices such as inhalers and CPAP/BiPAP equipment.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and calibrate respiratory care equipment to ensure safe and effective patient treatment.
  • Respond promptly to respiratory emergencies and provide critical respiratory support when required.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to all regulatory, safety, and infection control standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Valid professional license/registration.
  • Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of respiratory physiology and medical equipment.
  • Good communication and critical-thinking skills.
