Job Summary/Description

WIFR/WREX in Rockford, Illinois, is accepting applications for a full-time Meteorologist to join our award-winning team. The perfect individual will have Meteorology experience, prepare and deliver weather forecasts, weather information as part of the overall WIFR/WREX News team, be able to write, edit and shoot engaging, informative and compelling news and weather content; develop and execute community interest stories regularly; consistently contribute to weather and news content on the stations social media and digital platforms; maintain an unequivocal commitment to accuracy, fairness and ethics; meet daily production deadlines; and other duties as assigned.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Analyze weather data and prepare detailed forecasts • Prepare graphics to support weather presentation • Flexible schedule for severe weather & winter weather scenarios • Work closely with news management in designing presentation style and editorial content for on-air weather presentations. • Developing and reporting stories • Preparation of material for delivery of newscasts • Post content to website and social media platforms

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in meteorology • Prior experience as a broadcast meteorologist • Strong on-air communication skills • Ability to work as part of an on-air team and part of a weather team • Ability to be creative with graphic design and presentation • Demonstrated ability to accurately forecast weather • Proficient in social media platforms • Must possess a valid driver's license and good driving record.
