Position Summary
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. This role manages the monthly close process, supervises accounting staff, maintains compliance with GAAP, and supports budgeting, audits, payroll, and financial analysis. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of leading a team in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management, and general ledger activities.
- Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and general ledger accounts.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure accurate financial records.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting team members.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate annual financial audits and work directly with external auditors.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Analyze financial results and identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Monitor internal controls and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce risk.
- Oversee sales tax, payroll tax, and other regulatory filings as applicable.
- Support cash flow management and treasury activities.
- Collaborate with department leaders to provide financial guidance and operational support.
- Assist with system implementations, accounting software upgrades, and process automation initiatives.
- Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analyses for executive leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience managing month-end close and financial statement preparation.
- Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, Sage 300, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, QuickBooks Enterprise, or similar).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
