The Desktop Design Engineer is a key team member within the Enterprise Desktop Services Unit assigned to provide desktop services, platform and engineering level of support for OTI and client-supported agencies.

Responsibilities will include

  • Provide Engineering Design level support of desktop and laptop computers and related technology and software. Engineering includes evaluating new enterprise level hardware and software; application packing and installation for automated deployment; as well as testing of computer systems and peripherals within established standards and guidelines;
  • Interact with application software and operating systems ensure they perform to agency specified standards;
  • Provide design engineering services on medium, high and complex issues for Desktops, VoIP support, telecommunication, Video Conference, Internet access, Enterprise Email/Calendaring, network, security, as well as the entire Microsoft Office suite including Office 365;
  • Provide tier three escalation support when needed;
  • Follow and create process and procedures for installing and testing computer systems and peripherals within established standards and guidelines.
  • Provide documentation, knowledge transfer, and training as assigned;
  • Make recommendations on appropriate hardware, software, and policy based on user needs and agency standard, based on availability of hardware/software, and/or budgetary considerations;
  • Maintain Client Management System (SCCM) for all supported domains such as DOITT, CSC, and FJC;
  • Manage and troubleshoot multiple physical Microsoft Windows Desktops;
  • Provide Windows Desktop administration for physical Windows hosts at various locations;
  • Perform proactive monitoring to identify potential issues and/or problems and provide resolution;
  • Manage and troubleshoot all managed portable and virtual Microsoft Windows Desktops in addition to physical on-premises hosts;
  • Maintain Client Management Systems - SCCM (both), Workspace One (portable hosts), Nerdio Management Plane (Azure/virtual);
  • Provide support to resolve complex technical operational problems;
  • Provide Windows Desktop administration for all physical, portable, and virtual Windows hosts at various locations;
  • Maintain and update Azure Windows Virtual Desktops, host pools, add virtual memory, CPU and storage when needed;
  • Diagnose and document problem resolution, provide Root Cause Analysis, if needed;
  • Continuously research, test, and implement improvements to OTI Windows Desktop Environment and related systems, policies, and components;
  • Assist in the maintenance of the Windows desktops, including patches and security updates; upgrade and maintain hardware firmware;
  • Application Lifecycle;

HOURS/SHIFT Day - Due to the technical duties of this position in a 24/7 operation, candidate may be required to work overtime and/or various shifts such as weekends and/or nights/evenings.

COMPUTER SYSTEMS MANAGER - 1005D

  • A master's degree in computer science from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of progressively more responsible, full-time, satisfactory experience in Information Technology (IT) including applications development, systems development, data communications and networking, database administration, data processing, or user services. At least eighteen (18) months of this experience must have been in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity in the areas of applications development, systems development, data communications and networking, database administration, data processing or in the supervision of staff performing these duties; or
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of progressively more responsible, full-time, satisfactory experience as described in "1" above; or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and six (6) years of progressively more responsible, full-time, satisfactory experience as described in "1" above; or
  • A satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and must possess at least three (3) years of experience as described in "1" above, including the eighteen (18) months of administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory experience as described in "1" above.

In the absence of a baccalaureate degree, undergraduate credits may be substituted for a maximum of two (2) years of the required experience in IT on the basis of 30 semester credits for six (6) months of the required experience. Graduate credits in computer science may be substituted for a maximum of one (1) year of the required experience in IT on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits in computer science for one (1) year of the required IT experience. However, undergraduate and/or graduate credits may not be substituted for the eighteen (18) months of experience in an administrative, managerial, executive, or supervisory capacity as described in "1" above.
