Job description

Allswell is building the leading mental health services company for the LGBTQ+ community. Affirming, high-quality care for this population is still hard to find and harder to afford, and we are addressing that need with a diverse team of clinicians trained in LGBTQ+-affirming practices and specialty care, digital tools that makes our clinicians more effective, and insurance coverage that puts real care within reach.

The clinical outcomes are strong and the growth is fast. Since launching we have served hundreds of clients across Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC, in-network with Medicaid and major commercial plans in all three regions. 79% of clients report reduced depression (based on PHQ-9 scores) and 72% report reduced anxiety (based on GAD-7 scores) after 60 or more days of care.

We are expanding our services and footprint quickly, and building the team to match. Backed by leading healthcare and impact investors, we have the runway to do it right.

Our Clinical Model

Our care model uses gold standard approaches to address the unique needs of the LGBTQ+ community. Developed with leading clinical experts in trauma-informed and LGBTQ+ care, it pairs affirming, evidence-based treatment with proprietary tools that extend care beyond the session. Chief among them is our Trauma Journal, a structured Written Exposure Therapy-inspired tool that supports clients with trauma-related presenting concerns between visits and deepens the impact of their therapy work. This is what allows our clinicians to deliver the outcomes above, and it is a core part of what makes practicing at Allswell different.

About the Role

Allswell is seeking a licensed Clinical Director to lead clinical quality, supervision, and care delivery for the therapists serving our clients. This is our senior clinical leadership role. You will be the clinical point of leadership for every therapist at Allswell, collaborating with our Incoming Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and reporting to the Medical Director. The focus is a consistent, high-quality, affirming care experience for both clients and providers. This role will also involve the continued development of LGBTQ+affirming clinicians who care deeply about this mission. This is a full-time, fully remote role.

What You'll Do

  • Clinical Quality & Standards: Own the quality framework, chart review cadence, outcome tracking against our depression, anxiety, loneliness and other measures, and treatment fidelity across the team.
  • Supervision & Development: Own the supervision structure and our external supervision partnership, and step in to provide direct supervision during the transition period as needed. Lead onboarding, coaching, and clinician development, including integrating best practices for LGBTQ+ clinical care.
  • Clinical Operations: Support provider productivity, scheduling expectations, documentation workflows, and effective use of our EMR.
  • Risk & Compliance: Own crisis and risk protocols, treatment planning for complex cases, mandated reporting, and clinical policy, in coordination with our compliance function.
  • Model Stewardship: Own fidelity to the Trauma Journal and our Written Exposure Therapy protocol, and help evolve the model alongside our clinical advisors.
  • Clinical Strategy: Partner with the Medical Director and Psychiatry Team on the care model, new service lines such as group therapy, and how we scale affirming care across states.
  • Team Culture: Strengthen communication, accountability, and consistency across the clinical team, with particular attention to the needs of LGBTQ+ clients.

Who You Are

  • Active independent clinical license (LCSW, LMFT, LPC/LMHC, or Psychologist).
  • Qualified to provide clinical supervision to associate or pre-licensed clinicians.
  • Demonstrated experience and cultural competence delivering affirming care to LGBTQ+ clients (required).
  • 8+ years of clinical experience in behavioral health.
  • Experience supervising licensed and/or pre-licensed clinicians.
  • Strong background in clinical documentation, quality standards, and performance oversight.
  • Experience in virtual behavioral health or telehealth preferred.
  • Skilled at balancing accountability, support, and relationship-building with clinical teams.
  • Organized, adaptable, and comfortable in a fast-paced, high-growth virtual environment where processes and infrastructure are still evolving.

Licensure in DC, MD, or VA is a plus. We welcome candidates licensed elsewhere who are willing to pursue licensure in these geographies.

What We'd Love to See

  • A deep passion for transforming how LGBTQ+ people access affirming, high-quality mental health care.
  • Experience building or scaling clinical quality and supervision infrastructure at a growing practice.
  • Fluency with outcomes-based, measurement-informed care.
  • A track record of raising the clinical bar while keeping clinicians supported and engaged.

Why You'll Like Working at Allswell

  • The mission: we are building the definitive mental health company for the LGBTQ+ community, and the work changes clients' lives.
  • The scope: the founding clinical leadership seat, defining how supervision, quality, and care delivery work across the company.
  • The model: an expert-built, best-in-class clinical model with proprietary tools you will help steward and evolve.
  • The trajectory: a growing practice with strong outcomes and fast expansion, and room to build the clinical org as we scale.
  • The benefits: health, dental, and vision, plus unlimited PTO.
  • The team: a queer-led company that takes the work seriously and holds a high clinical bar.
  • Allswell is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status, and we especially welcome candidates from the communities we serve.
