In the Environmental Sustainability Assessment and Circularity (SUSTAIN) research unit, the different research groups advance science-based methods through the intensive development of software prototypes and computational tools that enable robust sustainability assessment. The unit has a strong expertise in environmental LCA, Industrial Ecology and Urban built environments the unit increasingly expands its scope to integrate social and economic dimensions and to support more realistic simulation of industrial processes. By combining methodological innovation with practical, high-quality digital tools, the unit provides industry, policymakers, and society with a comprehensive and operational view of sustainability performance.
We are looking for a postdoc who will contribute to the further development and application of dynamic LCA, and in particular DyPLCA (a computational framework, tool and database), a key promising asset of LIST. DyPLCA is the only approach that allows for a full temporal differentiation of the life cycle (including. background, as in ecoinvent 3.11) and could in the long run embody the next generation of dynamic life cycle inventory modelling applied at database level.
How will you contribute?
Describe the main responsibilities of the position.
- Advancing the modelling and implementation of DyPLCA (a computational framework, tool and database for dynamic Life Cycle Assessment)
- Contribute to proposal writing and project tasks execution related to Dynamic LCA (notably within ongoing projects such as LCA4BIO, AIM-PACE and FUEL-UP)
- Strengthening the DyPLCA database through updates and continuous improvement

Education
· PhD in Life Cycle Assessment or related, with a focus on dynamic LCA candidates who are soon to defend are also welcome to apply)
Experience and skills
· Demonstrated experience in dynamic LCA, with knowledge and application of prospective or consequential LCA being a strong asset, particularly in combination with dynamic LCA · Strong proficiency in Python and Brightway; experience with C++ or other programming languages is an advantage · Knowledge of Large Language Models (LLMs) and generative AI use is a plus · Understanding of an RTO (Research and Technology Organisation) mindset, with eagerness to collaborate with industry partners · Collaborative team player, able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary research environment
Language skills
- Fluency in English oral and written. French or German are an asset.
