Job description
As a Character Artist at Ubisoft Toronto, you’ll create and refine 3D character assets based on concept art and reference materials. You’ll work closely with experienced artists to learn our production pipeline, tools, and workflows, while contributing characters that come to life in game.
This is an entry-level role for someone with a strong foundation in character art, a clear interest in games, and a desire to grow within a supportive, collaborative team.
What you’ll do
- Translate 2D concepts and reference images into 3D character models
- Build high-poly and low-poly models that meet artistic and technical expectations
- Create clean, animation-ready meshes that follow deformation and technical guidelines
- Model clothing, props, accessories, and modular assets
- Unwrap models and produce efficient UV layouts
- Texture assets using physically based rendering workflows in Substance Painter
- Optimize assets to meet performance and technical requirements
- Apply feedback from experienced artists to refine asset quality
- Follow team tools, workflows, and pipeline standards
- Contribute to asset variations, background characters, and file cleanup tasks
What you bring to the team
- Share a portfolio showcasing 3D character work, including anatomy and texturing
- Demonstrate understanding of human anatomy, proportions, and facial structure
- Apply knowledge of clothing construction, fabric behavior, and folds
- Use ZBrush, Maya, Substance Painter, and Marmoset Toolbag at a working level
- Match a defined artistic style
- Show curiosity and motivation to learn and grow
- Collaborate with a positive, team-focused mindset
- Welcome feedback and support iterative improvement
