Job description
The Mission of ELMHS is to provide mental health evaluation, treatment, habilitation, and consultation for adults. Programs include inpatient interventions, jail-based evaluations, supervised group home and residential programs, forensic evaluation, care, custody, and aftercare; intermediate and long-term psychiatric care are coordinated with the total system of care in Louisiana.
Job Duties:
In this role, you will:
- Perform a variety of laboratory services for psychiatric patients who may be hostile and dangerous, increasing the risk of injury and/or exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
- Collect blood specimens on those difficult-to-draw patients, such as those with movement disorders and uncooperative patients requiring considerable explanation, discussion, and persuasion.
- Prepare and perform sterile venipuncture in keeping with standard protocol on patients to obtain blood for the requested analysis.
- Prepare Laboratory specimens such as blood, urine, stool, and sputum for diagnostic evaluation.
- Perform rapid chemical tests and analyses of body fluids and other material related to clinical medicine.
- Confer with the nurses and physicians on proper test orders and procedures. Compiles and maintains all records necessary for monthly reports to Quality Management, Infection Control, and the Medical Director.
- Ensures that unit supplies for the Laboratory are ordered and maintained, and that all reagents are date-compliant.
- Ensures Laboratory compliance with Infection Control Standards by maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Phlebotomist 1 or Phlebotomist 2 based on experience
