Responsibilities
GENERAL OVERVIEW
The Corporate Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Quality & Safety department in all activities related to workplace safety and compliance while adhering to occupational health and safety guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understand and ensure implementation of safety objectives to achieve company-wide goals.
- Serve as a liaison between the Quality & Safety Department and local leadership teams.
- Work with other Corporate Departments, such as Operations and HR Generalists, to best serve locations’ needs.
- Review and track post-incident investigations and corrective actions.
- Review and track injury data to confirm true root cause and corrective action along with the identification of trends.
- Provide training to various leadership groups to re-affirm existing safety culture and expectations.
- Assist with research to assure regulatory compliance with OSHA, DOT, and EPA regulations.
- Conduct and communicate safety audits.
- Actively participate in monthly Quality and Safety Team meetings and projects.
- Assist with Quality and Inventory projects as needed.
- Frequent travel to Alro locations required.
- Ability to multi-task and work independently.
- Lead or attend regular meetings that support and drive safety initiatives (travel sometimes required).
- Participate in acquisition safety needs and new warehouse set-ups.
- Attend safety conferences and report back new OSHA requirements or safe practices learned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent, college degree preferred but not required. Prior Alro experience and knowledge of company safety, quality, and operations required. Prior experience as a local Safety Coordinator or similar role preferred. Strong analytical skills and an understanding of administrative/clerical software are especially helpful.
Responsibility For Funds, Property, And Equipment
Demonstrates knowledge and competence in using company owned vehicles, machines and devices.
Communication Skills
- Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, notes, letters and memos.
- Ability to write clear correspondences.
- Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with vendors, OSHA, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to read, analyze, and understand general industry/company/vendor related advertisements, publications, and inquiries.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of colleagues, customers, vendors or management.
- Ability to organize and hold meetings and present in public forums.
Critical Thinking Skills
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats. Ability to analyze a situation and offer unbiased feedback.
Supervision Received
Typically, working from policies and general directives. Refers to supervision if clarification or interpretation of the department’s expectations is required. Oftentimes is self-directed and dictates daily tasks and schedules.

Considerable responsibility regarding general assignments in planning time, method, manner, and/or sequence of performance of own work and of a group of employees engaged in widely diversified activities.

Performs work operations in which decision-making after gathering and analyzing information is required. Time management and prioritization of projects are often self-directed.

Software Skills Required
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams), AS400, the Incident Reporting System (Dakota), and other company software applications as required.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Safety programs are understood and enforced; no tolerance policy. Constantly discusses safety, observes work practices, and is personally involved in the investigation of injuries and accidents. Prepares input as required for accidents, injuries, losses, etc.
