Design Manager – Hyperscale Data Center
Job description
Our long-term client is a leading hyperscale data center construction organisation, delivering large-scale mission-critical digital infrastructure across multiple geographies. The business is recognised for its commitment to safety, security, operational resilience, technical excellence, and the successful delivery of complex hyperscale data center environments.
They seek an experienced Design Manager to support the delivery of a major hyperscale data center development in Australia. The role requires strong design coordination experience across large-scale construction projects, with direct exposure to hyperscale data center or mission-critical infrastructure environments.
Candidates must have previously worked on the design and delivery of hyperscale data center projects, either in Australia or internationally.
🔹 Key Responsibilities
- Lead design coordination across hyperscale data center project workstreams.
- Manage design consultants, contractors, engineers, and technical stakeholders.
- Coordinate architectural, structural, civil, MEP, and specialist design interfaces.
- Ensure design deliverables align with programme, budget, and construction requirements.
- Manage design reviews, approvals, risk registers, and technical change control.
- Identify design conflicts early and drive practical resolution with stakeholders.
- Support constructability reviews, value engineering, and buildability assessments.
- Ensure compliance with client standards, codes, specifications, and authority requirements.
- Maintain strong documentation control across drawings, submissions, and approvals.
- Work closely with project, engineering, procurement, and construction delivery teams.
- Support commissioning, handover, and operational readiness from a design perspective.
🔹 Qualifications & Experience
- Must have hyperscale data center or mission-critical infrastructure experience.
- Experience may be gained in Australia or internationally.
- Strong understanding of complex construction design coordination and delivery.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary design consultants and technical stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of MEP, power, cooling, structural, and architectural interfaces.
- Ability to resolve technical issues across design and construction teams.
- Strong commercial, programme, risk, and change management awareness.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and reporting capability.
- Relevant degree in architecture, engineering, construction, or project management preferred.
- Australian project experience is advantageous but not essential.
