Job description

Job Title: Automotive Motor Vehicle & Accounting Clerk

Pay Range: $25.00-$29.00 per hour

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Automotive Motor Vehicle & Accounting Clerk to join our dealership team. This dual-focused role requires an individual who can efficiently process motor vehicle registrations, titles, and dealership compliance paperwork while accurately managing associated accounting entries, costing, and schedules.

Key Responsibilities

Motor Vehicle & Titling Duties

  • Process all new and used motor vehicle registration and titling paperwork through online systems and local DMV offices.
  • Verify all required documentation, including finance paperwork, reassignments, power of attorney forms, and emissions/inspection documents.
  • Resolve any titling or registration issues with customers, financial institutions, and state motor vehicle agencies.
  • Maintain precise inventory logs for temporary tags, license plates, and legal titles.
  • Ensure full compliance with state and federal motor vehicle regulations and laws.

Accounting & Costing Duties

  • Process and track extended warranty and aftermarket product cancellations, ensuring accurate calculation of refunds and proper posting to the general ledger.
  • Assist the accounting office with basic accounts payable/receivable, data entry, and month-end closing procedures as needed.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of automotive dealership experience specifically handling motor vehicle/titling work AND basic dealership accounting or deal posting.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of dealership management systems (e.g., CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds, or Dealertrack) and state-specific online DMV systems.
  • Skills:
  • Excellent numerical accuracy, data entry skills, and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills to balance high-volume DMV paperwork alongside accounting schedules.
  • Clear communication skills for interacting with sales managers, finance managers, and state agencies.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework in accounting or business administration is highly preferred.
