The Mason – Carpentry Technician supports Base Support Operations by performing masonry, concrete, and carpentry work across installation facilities, infrastructure, and mission‑critical buildings. This multi‑trade role constructs, repairs, and maintains structures made of concrete, brick, block, stone, and wood. The technician ensures facilities remain safe, functional, and compliant with base standards, working as part of the Facilities Maintenance team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform masonry work including laying block, brick, and stone; constructing walls, walkways, pads, and structural elements.
  • Mix, pour, finish, and repair concrete for slabs, sidewalks, curbs, floors, foundations, and utility structures.
  • Repair and install carpentry components such as doors, frames, windows, partitions, cabinetry, and wooden structural elements.
  • Install or repair formwork, structural supports, framing, and reinforcement materials.
  • Perform grout work, patching, plastering, stucco application, and mortar repair as needed.
  • Inspect buildings and structures for damage, deterioration, and safety hazards; recommend appropriate repair methods.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, work orders, and technical instructions.
  • Operate a variety of masonry and carpentry hand tools, power tools, mixers, saws, and equipment.
  • Perform demolition, debris removal, and site preparation as required for repair or construction tasks.
  • Ensure proper curing, alignment, leveling, and structural integrity of masonry and concrete installations.
  • Work with other trades (electricians, plumbers, HVAC, welders) to support multi‑disciplinary maintenance needs.
  • Document completed work, materials used, and labor hours using base CMMS systems such as MAXIMO.
  • Follow all base safety regulations, including PPE requirements, fall protection, confined‑space rules, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Support emergency repairs, rapid response tasks, and mission‑critical facility needs.
  • Maintain clean and organized tools, equipment, and work vehicles.
  • May be required to work weekends, holidays, early and late shifts N/A
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education / Certifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have a driver’s country of origin license.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator’s License

Experience

  • At least two (2) years’ experience in masonry, concrete work, carpentry, or general construction

Skills & Technology Used

  • English proficiency Reading & Speaking Level 2, Writing Level 1
  • Knowledge of structural repair techniques and materials used in base facilities
  • Ability to read construction drawings and interpret technical instructions
  • Physical ability to lift heavy materials, bend, dig, climb, and work in various weather conditions

Working Environment

  • Must be capable of working in an extreme weather condition with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 130 degrees in the summer months).
  • Includes some industrial production conditions as well.
  • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
  • The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard about the ambient noise level.

Physical Activities

  • Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
  • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
