Your day as a Senior Financial Analyst

As a Senior Financial Analyst , you’ll support in the delivery of the Total State Sector Accounts and key reporting aggregates included in NSW Budget, Half Year Review and Monthly Reporting. This role will also support in the delivery of ad-hoc projects. Your typical day-to-day work may include:

  • assisting in the consolidation of financial information at a whole of government level for inclusion in financial reports of the State.
  • reviewing agency submissions of financial information including detailed review and variance analysis of agency-based data and emerging issues impacting the accounts to facilitate informed decision making
  • attending to agency data submissions and agency enquiries to ensure accuracy of information and on time submission
  • contributing to the preparation of Budget papers as necessary
  • supporting the delivery of projects as required across the Group.

What you can bring to the role

In this integral role there are a few things we would like for you to have to best support yourself and add value to the people of NSW.

The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria

  • CA/CPA qualified or working towards qualification
  • Eligibility for membership of a recognised professional accounting body such as CPA Australia or Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
  • Experience from the Big Four Accounting firms or Audit Office (preferred, but not essential)
  • Knowledge of consolidation accounting processes
  • Knowledge of accounting standards, policies and guidelines as they apply to public sector agencies and the Total State Sector Accounts for NSW
  • Intermediate to advanced excel skills
  • Prior experience in and demonstratable technical financial accounting skills and knowledge
  • Analytical skills with strong conceptual and research skills
  • An ability to deal with competing projects and priorities and meet deadlines
