An exciting opportunity has arisen within NSW Fair Trading for a Senior Advisor, Executive Operations & Support, within the Governance, Assurance and Performance Branch.

Be Part of the Future of Fair Trading NSW Fair Trading is working to ensure safe marketplaces for goods, services and homes across New South Wales. At NSW Fair Trading, we’ve been on an exciting journey of transformation - reimagining how we deliver for the people and communities of NSW. Through our recent organizational realignment, we’ve built a new operating model designed to put customers at the centre of everything we do, strengthen our regulatory impact, and enable our people to thrive. We’re creating a more modern, responsive and risk‑based Fair Trading - one that understands the needs of people and businesses, embraces collaboration and innovation, and delivers better outcomes across the rental, strata, property and consumer markets we serve. This next phase brings new and exciting opportunities to join us in shaping the new way - where you can help design smarter regulation, improve customer experiences, and make a real difference for the people of NSW.

If you’re someone who

  • Thinks deeply about the needs of people and communities
  • Is motivated by great outcomes, not just processes
  • Wants to be part of an organization that’s transforming how consumer protection regulation works …then there’s a place for you in our future.

Join us as we build a Fair Trading that’s fit for the future

  • one that’s customer‑centred, evidence‑driven, and proudly focused on public value.

About the Role As Senior Advisor, Executive Operations & Support, you will operate as a trusted strategic partner to the Deputy Secretary, supporting how priorities are set, communicated and delivered across the division. You will manage the flow of information, priorities and issues into and out of the executive office - exercising sound judgement about what needs executive attention, when, and in what form. A key part of the role is leading and coordinating internal communications and engagement on behalf of the Deputy Secretary, ensuring messages, priorities and expectations are communicated clearly, consistently and at the right time. You will prepare and coordinate high‑quality briefings, correspondence and communications, often on sensitive or time‑critical matters, ensuring they are clear, accurate, aligned and decision‑ready. You will also work closely with Directors and senior managers across Fair Trading to coordinate inputs, surface emerging risks and issues early, and maintain a clear line of sight over delivery, dependencies and organisational pressures. Success in this role is measured by how well the executive operates - not through visibility, but through trust, reliability and impact.

In this role, you will

  • Act as a trusted advisor and central coordination point for the Deputy Secretary’s office
  • Manage competing priorities and requests, applying strong judgement to triage, escalate and resolve issues
  • Prepare, review and coordinate high‑quality executive briefs, correspondence and communications
  • Lead and coordinate internal communications and engagement to support alignment with executive direction
  • Work with senior leaders to synthesise and challenge inputs so advice is balanced, concise and decision‑ready
  • Identify emerging issues, risks or sensitivities and proactively bring them to executive attention
  • Support engagement across the division so messages land clearly and consistently
  • Continually improve executive operations, workflows and ways of working.

About you This role will suit someone who is comfortable operating in a high‑trust, fast‑paced executive environment and who brings confidence, discretion and maturity to their work. You don’t need ‘governance’ or ‘communications’ in your title - but you do need to understand how executive decision‑making, risk, accountability and organisational dynamics work in practice.

You are the type of person who

  • Exercises strong judgement and knows when to push, when to pause and when to escalate
  • Writes clearly and confidently, particularly on sensitive or complex matters
  • Is organised but adaptable, able to reset quickly when priorities shift
  • Is proactive rather than reactive, anticipating what leaders will need
  • Is trusted to handle sensitive information with discretion and care
  • Enjoys being behind the scenes enabling leaders to operate at their best.

Why this opportunity

  • This is a rare opportunity to step into a meaningful executive operations role where you will:
  • Work closely with senior leaders on real, consequential issues
  • Build deep insight into how Fair Trading operates at system level
  • Bevelop strong executive judgement, influence and organisational awareness
  • Contribute to improving how leadership, governance and operations come together in practice.

Salary Grade 9/10, with the base salary for this role starting at 133348 base plus superannuation
